Looking towards downtown Beaufort, from Lady's IslandLady’s Island is nestled between Historic Downtown Beaufort and the Atlantic Ocean. Lady's Island is also one of Beaufort's premier residential areas. From the waterfront communities of Distant Island, Cane Island, Cat Island and Newpoint, to the wonderful and more affordably priced communities of Royal Pines, Christine Place, and Telfair, Lady's Island has something for everyone. Lady's Island is separated from downtown Beaufort by the Woods Memorial Bridge, more commonly referred to as  old "swing bridge."  In recent years, Lady’s Island has become a very popular option for builders and developers, because of this proximity to downtown Beaufort, and seemingly endless waterways.   Lady's Island has also become home to very upscale condominium complexes, such as Hamilton Village.

And Lady's Island is so much more than just neighborhoods. On the more rural northern end of Lady's Island sits bucolic locales like Coosaw Island and Judge Island. In fact, the waterways and  vistas on the bridge onto to Coosaw Island are so picturesque, that the producers of Forrest Gump chose the area as filming site for several important scenes. Just beyond Lady's Island, on the way out of Beaufort, sits St. Helena Island, a gorgeous barrier island dripping with moss, history and a Gullah culture that was born on the rice, indigo and cotton plantations of centuries years gone by.

Very interesting information.  I need to visit Beaufort again.  I was there for a quick trip only one time and it was cut short by a storm.

Belated thanks for the feedback, Kim. You should have  stuck around -- Beaufort has wonderful storms, especially in the summertime :)
