Goose Stopover at New Trier High School

It's tough being a goose nowadays - wide open green spaces are hard to come by.  It's a testament to our recently warm weather (now gone) that these geese ares till here in late January.

North Shore residents are used to driving around and seeing giant flocks congregate on what few areas are left:  golf courses, schools, or office complex green areas.  I snapped this one morning while driving past the rear side of New Trier High School.   They won't stay long - soccer, lacrosse or some other sport would certainly start soon.

At least these poor birds have a layer of down to keep them warm. It's nice they could find a green spot to rest and eat.

Hi Debbie - when I took the photo, it was in the 40s outside, for the past few days it's been hovering in the single digits so I hope they left!

Hi Margaret,

There must be a lot of worms in the grass and that is a huge flock of geese. Geese are such social and entertaining.
