• The City of Meadowlakes has joined other Texas cities by passing an ordinance that bans texting while driving in the city limits.  Violation of the law will result in a $200 fine, but officers will issue warning citations for the next two months as residents learn of the new ordinance.

  • The Marble Falls City Council passed several changes to the nuisance ordinance at the November 20 meeting.  One such change was banning anything but vehicles from being stored in car ports, but the amendments passed November 20 allow for other items-if they are designed for outdoor use.  The council will also allow for playground equipment and barbeque grills-if they are in working condition-to be in front yards.  The city will work with residents the first year.

  • Goodwill will open a 21,000 SF store in Marble Falls on US 281.  Goodwill stores are widely known for carrying everyday items, such as furniture and clothes, at lower prices.  Customers can shop or donate their unused items so they can be recycled and purchased by someone who needs them.

  • Scott & White Healthcare has announced they will merge with Baylor Healthcare System and form Baylor Scott & White.  This will not change any local hospital plans in Marble Falls.

  • Cupcake Chateau set to open this month at 903 2nd St., Marble Falls.  Deandra Wood, owner, currently works from home but since business has picked up she is set to open a store front in downtown Marble Falls.  Wood said that “her bakery creations are set apart because of their homemade ingredients and lack of preservatives.  People are trying to get away from the preservatives,” she said.  “My recipes have more love in them instead of store bought cakes.”  For us here at the Paragon Property Group, we are excited - they will be right next door!   This could be worth and extra 10 pounds.....! :) 

  • The Lower Colorado River Authority  (LCRA) will recommend that no water from the Highland Lakes be provided to downstream rice farmers if the combined storage of water in the Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis reservoirs is below 850,000 acre feet on March 1.  Stay tuned for further updates!

  • Save the World Brewery Co will begin operations by the end of the summer and then begin distributing beer by the end of 2013.  Save the World’s business model includes using money to benefit charity.

  • Kim Timmons, a Burnet High Art Teacher, wins the 2012 Texas High School Art Educator of the Year award after her students became her references.  Who better to judge her abilities as a teacher than her students?  Congrats Kim!
