Most people have never heard of Cullowhee and would have difficulty pronouncing and spelling the word. To those of us living in the mountain of Western North Carolina however, Cullowhee is the home of Western Carolina University and a fount of cultural entertainment opportunities. The Bardo Arts Center (formerly the Fine and Performing Arts Center) is a gorgeous performance hall that we all feel fortunate to have in our midst. I can't wait for tonight when I get to go see Savion Glover presenting his SoLe Sanctuary.
Savion Glover is considered to be one of the best tap dancers in the world. His SoLe Sanctuary performance is Savion's opportunity to honor those other tap performers who were mentors and instrumental in his life as he continues to perfect his craft. While I've been familiar with him for a while, it was really interesting to do a little background research on him. He's performed with some the very most famous tap dancers ever. I found clips of him with Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis Jr, and Sandman Simms. He was the choreographer behind the movie "Happy Feet". He is a Tony winning choreographer for "Bring on da Noise, Bring on da Funk". Can you believe he'll be here in a sold out performance in Cullowhee, NC?
The show will begin at 7:30 but before that I'm going to meet a couple of friends and try out the new Mexican restaurant in Cullowhee, I'll talk about that tomorrow.
The weather could turn dicey later...my personal fave, cold...windy...freezing rain...with a possibility of turning into a "wintery mix". Yum. Not really yum, more like um. The chances are really good that the show will finish up and I'll be home safe and snug before the worst of it arrives.
However, first things first...we have a new client this morning and I need to head off to meet him in Bryson City. Fun and games later!
