Excitement is building as we get closer to Sunday, February 3rd. Whether you’re a football fan or not, the Super Bowl is a great reason to get together with friends and family, eat wings and pizza and see the best commercials of the year!
I keep seeing advertisements for the big game, and even the grocery store is boasting a Super Bowl section with all the junk food and drinks you need to create the perfect party.
And, as I got to thinking about this much anticipated game, I started to think about some of the life lessons we can learn from the Super Bowl. Of course, as a Real Estate Virtual Assistant, I took it one step further to how these lessons can apply to those in the real estate profession. (We told you we’re always looking out for tips and advice to pass along!)
Here are the top four lessons we can learn from football’s biggest game of the year.
1. Marketing Matters- Many of us will admit that we watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. These creative or funny commercials will be talked about around the water cooler for weeks after the game. The lesson learned? Marketing really does matter!
While you may not be spending millions buying a commercial spot for the Super Bowl, it’s important to put some creativity and money into your marketing. People will notice, and you want to make sure you’re the real estate professional they’re talking about!
2. Quitters Never Win- It would be ridiculous to see a team simply walk off the field and quit at the hardest point in the game. Why should our work be any different? If you’re trying something new for your business this year, or have set exciting goals, you will probably experience some hardship or setbacks. Don’t give up! Push through those tough times and keep the end goal in mind!
3. You Need a Good Team- The top two teams that make it to the Super Bowl have proven the success of team work and players that excel at their given role. In the same way, surround yourself with individuals who are great at what they do and are team players. Working together as a real estate team, rather than everyone out for their own success, will create a powerful force that is hard to beat!
4. Learn to Lose Well- There can only be one team that wins the Super Bowl, and for every listing, there can only be one agent who wins the listing or client. Whether you don’t get the client you wanted or another agent snatches up that great listing to sell; there will be “losses” in the real estate industry.
These losses should be expected and shouldn’t leave you feeling sorry for yourself or your business. Take a few minutes to reflect on what went wrong, what you can do differently next time, and then get back out there!
I hope these lessons are a good reminder of what it takes to be successful in the real estate industry! As you prepare to watch the Super Bowl, think through how you and your team can work together to have a winning 2013!
And, as always, we’re here to help in any way we can! We look forward to working with you!
