Starbucks in Eastchester NY 10709 - I was not a happy camper yesterday

Those of you well know me well, know that I love Starbucks.  I'm there virtually everyday...and multiple times a day.  I go to most of the Starbucks in the county in between appointments.  I love the coffee and the everything bagels and the fact that I can get wifi and get my work done.  It's a great place to relax, refuel and get some work done.  I even do some networking there.  I prefer to go to the ones where it's easy (and free) to park.

starbucks logoAnyway, yesterday I had a long break between appointments - probably 3 hours.  I was very excited about this.  I went to the Starbucks in Eastchester.  It's on White Plains Rd (I think Rt 22) right near Lord & Taylor.  Recently (within the last year), they redesigned the place (which is usually a good thing). The new tile work looks great, the new chairs work better, they have more seating and importantly more outlets.  Many of the Starbucks have been redesigned like this this, and I always notice.

But, this redesign failed to take into account 1 very important consideration - the front door.  This has a huge impact on this store.  It's in the front middle and in the dead cold of winter, it's very unpleasant.   All of the seats are at the front and close to the door, and it's cold.  Very cold.  And, even worse this week with the frigid cold.

I sat there wearing my winter coat and boots the whole time and was very cold. The door kept opening and me and all the other patrons were noticeably cold and annoyed. Everyone had their winter coat on, and several had hats.  Everytime someone got up from a table that was further from the door everyone tried to grab those seats and then you saw a whole shift with everyone trying to move further from the door.  But, even at the warmest seats, it was still cold.

My coffee got cold very quickly, so I was not happy with that either and of course my warm bagel cooled down very quickly.  So my eating/drinking experience was not good, and my demeanor was terrible.  And, honestly, I don't want to go back to that store again...at least not until April or May.

Starbucks, I hope you see this, because I'm one of your most loyal customers.  I have a gold card and go to your store 2-3 times a day.  I have even blogged about you several times.  Please see what you can do to fix this store.  Me and every customer in there was annoyed.

Roger - Yes, that's exactly what I was saying yesterday when I was talking to someone on the phone while I was there.  And, yes, bad news/complaints move far and fast.

An additional foyer/"antiroom" would go a long way to solve some of this. Have them come in one door into the foyer, and then another door to come into the actual store. This will block much of the cold weather from coming in. Of course, this is easier said than done and would impact business significantly while the remodel was going on

Brian - Yes, it would be great if they could do that (but not sure the layout would accomodate that).  But, if they could, or if they could move the door to the side, they could save money in heating bills to help offset the cost...not to mention that more people will come, stay longer and buy more which is the whole idea of having a comfortable environment.

Sounds like the organization that did the remodel was in Seattle and did take the cold climate into consideration.  It is a shame because I also camp out at Starbucks.

Grant - Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like.  Super poor planning.  I remember this being an issue last year at this Starbucks, but it's now WORSE with the new set up.

Good morning Debbie,

Winter in New York and hot coffee never seem to go hand in hand.

Make yourself a great day.

Brian has the solution. That is exactly why many building have the double entry, to help keep the weather out.

Oh Debbie, I feel your pain on that one!  It is a big pet peeve of mine to be cold in a restaurant or coffee shop, it makes it hard to relax and be comfortable.

I am a Peet's fan, he guy that got Starbucks started, and I go there every lunchtime with my computer.  When it's cold here, the front door is always a problem.  Hope Starbucks take notice and fix it for you

Bobbie -Yes, I'm a huge fan, but not of this one store.  And, I complained about today to everyone I ran into.

Raymond - Yes, looking forward to spring.

Sheila - yes, I should...I posted on Google Plus, too, but I may need to go direct.

James - Yes, that's true.

Christine - Exactly!

Tom - LOL, that's a great idea.  I could prob. help them.

Kristin - I should have.  I was so cold and tired I didn't even think of that.  Doh.  But, then again, I had another one in another town where I complained...it got too cold in the summer and they told me they couldn't control it, so I gave up.  I try to avoid that one, too.  I don't hink they realize how much biz they lose from this because I bet most people don't bother to tell them.

Jane - Oh yeah, that's good too. There are some in the City, but not here.

Debbie some of these franchises forget that what is a good design in California, is not necessarily a good design in the North East.  Are you still cold :)

Even in Florida where it's 70 degrees and sunny today, it would not be pleasant to sit in a drafty doorway.  Starbucks needs to rethink this one!
