If You Are A Rainmaker, and You Write a Consumer Post, Why.....?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Don Sabinske, Sabinske & Associates Inc. 539MN

If you have a consumer audience, why are you making your posts “Members Only”?

Katerina Gassett has suggested in many an AR University class that nearly every post she writes, including rants, if public.

If it is good enough for Katerina, that is good enough for me.

Many times, I have wanted to reblog a post only to find out that I cannot because of the “Members Only” qualification.

Please rethink your blog posts.  If the consumer can’t read them or comment, why are you writing them.

I will get off the soapbox now…..Next?

Good point, Don.  The purpose of blogging, even with AR, is to get the message out to the public besides just working referrals with real estate agents!

Good morning Don -

It is rare I have a Members Only post.  Now if it happens to be a little mini rant / melt down sure.  I don't want the public to see me venting.  I also made a joke I posted this week Members Only fearing it might offend some of the public.  We must be careful in all we post and how we post it.  One never knows where it might show up or who will read it.  HEY LOOK AT THOSE POINTS........... TODAY SHALL BE YOUR DAY!!!!

I think some of the contests are for members only but other than that, everything I write I want seen on my outside blog.

Congratulations on the 500k woo hoo.

Now to the point of this topic.  I write members only posts when i am talk to the AR community.  If I want to share a blogging tip... my local readership doesn't give a hoot about that.  And I share "tips" for things to get business and I don't mind sharing with other firms OUT OF MY AREA, but no one else here is actively a member so if it's member's only my competition is trying to figure it out.

I blog public when it's an attempt to get business and let my readers get to know me.

The only time I post "member only" is when my post is of a personal nature which I want to share with only friends. Otherwise it's always public. As you say, what good is it if the consumer can't see it.

Agreed... Of all the posts I write I think only 2 maybe 3 are members only.

Don, Unless the purpose of the rant is to get the consumer (or bank's attention), any rants, and they will be scarce, will stay Members Only.  But the reality is, why write a rant to start with?  How likely is it to build business?  I consider it more of a break glass in case of emergency thing.  Bill

Don- I agree.  I very rarely post Members Only (which I did today) and that's because I want to keep it within this community.  And..... BTW... congratulations to you for passing another milestone!
