Baby, It's Cold Outside...A View of Frozen Life

Real Estate Broker/Owner with MoonDancer Realty, Dillsboro,NC NC# 218097
The forecast said we'd see the sun today, so far it remains hidden.  Yesterday was a delicious mix of frozen rain, sleet, ice and other assorted crystalline objects all over Western North Carolina...delicious anyway if you are a penguin, polar bear or reindeer!  Leslie said it best on the tense drive far this winter, we've mainly gotten the ewwwww of winter and not so much the pretty.

By the time we arrived in Balsam, the temperature had soared to 30 degrees from the morning's 19 degrees and the solidly iced driveway from that morning had thawed to just partially iced.  The crystalline mix continued to pepper us with its icy pellets however and an hour later we were back to slip sliding away.  There is NOTHING like having to walk dogs on icy pathways.  Not only was the blacktop icy but so was the potty sure foothold anywhere.  I'm so glad this doesn't happen very often, in fact, I can only remember this kind of icy stuff maybe 3 times in the last 20 mumble mumble years.

However...all this whining isn't meant to indicate that the trees encased in ice isn't in a way perversely gorgeous.  Once the dogs were put back inside, I gingerly approached the bits of frozen yet living greenery to preserve in digital foreverness.

As my fingers and toes lost sensation all I could think about was the song, "Baby, It's Cold Outside".  When I searched YouTube for just the right video, oddly enough a scene that I don't remember from Buddy the Elf was my favorite. At least when my brain hums the tune now, it's chuckling.

Everything covered in ice can certainly be pretty to look at, but if you have to go anywhere.......

I think ice storms are the most dangerous.  I would rather see the snow.  The pictures are great but I am sure there have been more than a few broken tree limbs.

I love your writing (and your photos).

To me it always looks like a winter wonderland with ice on the trees and everything else.  But, it can sure be dangerous to outside in it driving or falling.  Even the pups can have a rough time gathering their feet beneath them!  You captured some beautiful scenery of the ice.  The Hendersonville area didn't see much black ice until around noon and than the fender/benders began in earnest.  Fortunately I don't think any serious injuries were reported.  We're up into the low 30's now.  Have a great weekend.

Mona, you are having some extreme eater out there. Can't make for easy driving at all. We have been super mild in Denver hitting around 60 all week. How weird is that. I know it will change in a minute.

Hi Mona, that is what I love about Denver, the sun is out here 300 days a year . Watch the ice, be careful.

The pictures look so cool, no pun intended. :)

Poor plants, I hope they can survive the cold weather without getting damaged.

Those are fantastic pictures.  I feel bad for the Northeast right now, with their frigid weather. Stay safe and keep warm.

Than, that kind of weather is meant for staying home and staying warm.

Grant, we had our share of broken limbs for sure.

Beth, you've got it...what other choice do we have?

Fred, today was much better.  At least we got over 40 degrees!

Valerie, when you're cold statements don't mean a thing. Hah.

Roger, I listened to that clip earlier and almost used it, but Buddy made me laugh.

Barbara, we rarely see 3 feet...thank goodness for that.  We're going to see 65 deg by Tuesday. Yay.

Pat, thanks and it means a lot to me that you take the time to look at this blog.  I'm hoping you had something wonderful for dessert in Asheville.

Hi Sue, sometimes Hendersonville gets the ice stuff worse than we do.

Sheila, glad you liked them.  Good luck tomorrow if it is your adoption day.

Belinda, it's hard to think of Denver having that mild of weather in the winter.  I thought you guys were all about the skiing.

Will, hello...we made it without slipping once but boy we did have to be careful.

Patty, those plants are pretty hardy. They got through the whole thing beautifully.

Michael, I feel bad for the NE too.  They need warm spring time weather.

Those are beautiful pictures, Mona! It's hard for me to imagine your temperatures. We are having spring-like weather here in Friendswood, Texas. I broke out the capri pants and flip flops today!

Rose, I wouldn't even wear capris and flip flops inside the house right now.  Spring like weather sounds good to me.
