Within the last few months I finally broke down and got a trusted repairman whom I have used for over 20 years to replace some wood rot on my art studio behind my house. It was originally made of wood 4x8 siding but decided that Hardy board was a better material to use. This repair was out of my skill sets.
At some point one of the helpers came in and said it wouldn't match. Thinking that he meant the thickness was different, I wasn't concerned. However, a few weeks ago I had occasion to go out to the workshop, which is seldom used these days. It now was apparent that there had been a gross mis-communication. As you can see from the pictures, there was a gap to the outside sometimes as wide as almost a half inch. What a disappointment and shame on me for not checking out the repair better!
Now my life has turned to "do it yourself" if I want it done. My work started todayto solve the problem. The interior is now sealed. Tomorrow or the next day I am off to paint and caulk other work that was recently done by a much better repairman. Ah, the joys of 1. living within 400 feet of the ocean and 2. living in a home that is 60 years old and 3. having to do it MYSELF. This is after repairing my 21x11 foot back porch and building a gate for my Chinese Cresteds.
I can't keep this up forever but for now.... More on the back porch repair. I have photos.
