Something we get asked a lot when we work with buyers relocating to the North Shore is, “Where are the grocery stores?”
Since we don’t have a lot of strip malls on the North Shore where you normally find the large chains, it’s not always obvious where to go to buy groceries. So we prepared this handy map and some information about the food stores on the North Shore.
There are a couple of large chains (Dominicks and Jewel) but there are also small, local chains like The Grand and Sunset Foods, as well as specialty stores and independents like Fresh Market and Artisanal.
Dominicks – There are seven Dominicks stores on the North Shore (marked by the blue pins on the map below). They have the largest stores and a wide selection of everything. They also have on-site pharmacies.
Jewel- Jewel-Osco stores are marked with a green pin on the map and they are pretty much like Dominicks in terms of variety, but some of the stores have a smaller footprint. Jewel stores also have a pharmacy (Osco).
Sunset Foods - These three stores (Highland Park, Lake Forest and Northbrook) have wonderful quality and service. My husband is a grocery store snob and Sunset is his favorite. Unfortunately, their stores are not very convenient to where we live, so he’s stuck with Dominicks and Jewel.
