I wanted to re-blog this because Connie has found a great way to buy local produce, better food for her and her family. And supporting small local businesses, especially farmers, is so very important. I am a supporter of eating foods that are grown locally, organic if possible. We grow a lot of our own, can and store the bounty, and now have chickens so we have our own eggs. The Doe Run CSA sounds like a great way to do your part. Definitely check into it!

Was one of your 2013 New Years Resolution to eat right? Joining a local CSA is a sure way to help keep you on track through the summer and into the fall.
CSAs are investments in local farms where the consumer purchases a "share" of the farm for that year. It's called Community Supported Agriculture. This allows you to "share" in the bounty from the land.
Shares may be whole, half or Mini, which is what we choose to recieve. The farmers agree to deliver at a pre-determined site a box of vegetables each week. Many are delivered at local Farmer's Markets, others have pick-up sites scattered throughout the city.
Though we have tried other farms and enjoyed them, the mini share provided by Doe Run Farms in Petersburg, TN has just the right mix and amount of vegetables that suits our family. The fact that I drive 3 blocks from my office on Tuesday afternoon doesn't hurt either.
What can you expect to get? The fruit and vegetables are always chosen on the best available for that week. One week you might find strawberries, lettuce, kale, peppers, onions, beets and Kohlrabi just to name a few.
There's always a great variety to fill your week.
