Bodnant Gardens

Being a avid gardener I love to see other people's gardens and other gardens across the US and around the world. . Roy Kelley is an avid photographer who showcases many flowers from Longwood Gardens. A 1077 acre Garden with much beauty. It is on my bucket list. Now I came across this place called Bodnant Gardens which is in Britain. Now I don't know if I will ever make it to Britain but it is interesting learning about the different places outside my little corner of the gardening world.

Bodnant Garden features an extensive and varied range of interesting and beautiful plants from all over the world, particularly China, North America, Europe and Japan that are suited to the Welsh climate and soil. The gardens, which spread over the 80 acres surrounding Bodnant House, were begun in 1875. They were first laid out by Henry Davis Pochin, a successful industrial chemist, his daughter married the first Baron Aberconway in 1911, after which the gardens were tended by four generations of the local Aberconway family. A minimum of two hours is required to fully appreciate the garden. Plants and shrubs provide a blaze of color through Spring and Summer but Autumn is arguably the best time to view the garden.

Beautiful gardens Sharon.  When I lived in NYC, my favorite were the Conservatory Gardens.

Gloria-Heavenly I imagine. It would be wonderful. When I am able to travel Longwood Gardens is a wonderful place with all the different flowers it has. Roy and Dolores do a wonderful job. Maybe if you are able when I am able to do so we could go together.

Than-So do I. It would be awesome to see for real.

Gary-Indeed it does and the waterfall does look peaceful. I would be in heaven,

Kathy-That would be wonderful but it isn't in the cards right now with me taking care of Mom. My next phase of my life journey I would love to.

It would be my pleasure to escort you to the Conservatory Gardens Sharon.  That is just a small portion of the gardens and one of the fountains.  It is gorgeous and full of magnolia trees.

Roger-I love magnolias. I have heard there is a lot of beautiful places in NYC. I would be afraid to go by myself so I will take you up on the offer. Thanks

Roy-I found out Longwoods is only about 5-1/2 hrs from here and brookside is 4.5 so not too far at all. I was reading about those orchids. I can only imagine how gorgeous that is.

Hi Sharon,

Like you, I love Roy Kelley's photographs.  The Bodnant Garden's is so beautiful it almost doesn't seem like it could be a real place.  It seems like a the magical work of a painter instead.

Sondra-I imagine it is even more so in person. Mother nature is God's paintbrush.

Michael-I hadn't either but probably because it is in Britain.

Sharon, I would personally love to go to Monet's sanctuary where he painted so many beautiful vistas....I also miss being a member of the Portland Japanese Gardens...I even took a gardening journal with me and drew pictures of the bamboo fencing, to which I re-created BY HAND, harvesting my own bamboo, cutting it and thrashing it together in traditional structures with jute--a lot of darned work, but I was SO proud. I made steps in the traditional manner and put in mosses to grow around them and also wrote about plants/colors and whatnot in my journal, doing much of that in my own backyard. One of my finest pieces of art to date!!
