Last, Wednesday I had the distinct privilege to attend a talk at the International Spy Museum in Washington DC. The speaker was Sandra Grimes co-author of the book “Circle of Treason.” The book depicts the account as told by Jeanne Vertefeuille and Sandra Grimes, two of the people responsible for bringing down the traitor Aldrich Ames.
Sandra told the history of why this group was started and how they captured one of the worst traitors in American History. She recounted synopsis of the book (I have not finished reading) but most importantly she told the story of the victims. The story as Sandy so eloquently puts it is the story of Ames’ victims.
Unfortunately, for all of us Jeanne passed away December 29, 2012. Sandy takes her speaking engagements very seriously ;as she states she is now speaking not only for herself but for Jeanne as well.
I found the talk most interesting and Sandy is very personable, nice and very modest. There were many in attendances that were “in the business.” In attendance was a lady who I recognized from speaking about one of her “Bond Moments” in the current Bond exhibit at the museum. She patiently waited to get her book signed by Sandy and spoke with her. The lady was Mrs. Tony Mendez. Does the name ring a bell? If you have seen the movie “Argo” it should. He was the CIA operative the movie is about. I noticed a very distinguished looking gentleman whose name is David and his daughter introduced herself to many as David’s daughter not sure who David was but I was sure he could tell lots of “stories.”
If you get an opportunity to attend one of these forums at the Spy Museum you should go. I personally want to thank Sandy Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille and all of the clandestine services for their dedication to our country.
