Pennsylvania County Property Tax Statements - Central Pennsylvania

By
Real Estate Agent with Joy Daniels Real Estate Group, Ltd.

Pennnsylvania County Property Tax Statements have been sent out!

You will probably receive your 2013 County Tax Bill in the mail today.  This tax bill will cover the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013 and can be paid by the end of March for a discount, in April for the "standard" amount or May or later with a penalty attached.  The County bill is typically the lesser dollar amount of the two real estate tax bills that property owners in the area must pay.  The School Real Estate Tax Statement will arrive in your mail around July 1st and covers July 1, 2013 thru June 30, 2014.

If you have your taxes included in your house payment, this statement is for informational purposes only.  Pennsylvania law requires each county to send this statement out to inform you of your current property taxes.  HOWEVER, many area tax collectors do NOT mail their tax bills directly to your lender, they mail them to you and YOU NEED TO GET THEM TO YOUR LENDER.

Please make sure you keep a copy for your records.

Thank  you Gita, I am with my son.  :)  Of course I am the proud mom!   Are the county taxes the same in your part of PA?

You have a great Super Bowl Sunday too Joni.  I am glad we have an accountant that does our taxes, so I don't have to think about them too much.

Hi Joy -- as Joni Staples commented -- taxes are not a favorite topic of conversation but a necessary evil so communities can survive -- you have presented a very good explanation of how property taxes "work" in Central Pennsylvania.

I actually saw that Joan Cox had done a real estate tax post and I thought it was a great idea- so I can't take all the credit.  :)   Thanks Michael.
