Congress to not take a salary? That's right --- google H.R. 325

Yes dearest readers,

You read it right -- H.R. 325 is entitled, "No Budget, No Pay".  It is an attempt by SOME members of Congress to enact a Law which will 'suspend' the pay to members of Congress if they cannot come up with a budget by April 15th.  If that is the case, members of Congress will not receive a paycheck until January 3rd, 2015.

Now before we go too crazy, their paychecks will be put into an escrow account which will be dispersed to them at the end of their term.  Even though they would still get their pay, in the end, that is a HUGE first step.  Most of the people reading this blog right now only get a paycheck when you deliver what you say.  I always tell my customers that I only get paid when I deliver what I promise.  That's the way it should be.

Senator Dan Coats stated, "If this body can't fulfill its most fundamental duty by law, I don't think that we should get paid."  I'm starting to tear up while I'm typing this right now (as I reach for the Kleenex).  That statement is more beautiful than anything Bill Shakespeare threw together.

Either google H.R. 325 or click on this link (my goodness, it's 6 pages long(!) -- READ IT!)).

Maybe we are not all completely doomed.  I mean, we're definitely doomed, but maybe not COMPLETELY doomed...

Khash:  And how about if we play that same little trick with YOUR commission checks.  Heck... McConnell and his Republican/Tea Party of "Just Say No" extremists should have had that done to them for the last four years.  Not only have they done nothing, they have put this country in reverse.

It's a good thing that NorthEastern Ohio sends mostly Democrats to the Senate and House.  I am going to miss Dennis Kucinich.  I lived in Cleveland when he was the mayor.  He did many wonderful things for the city.

Hi Karen,

Not getting paid unless the job gets done is a lifestyle which I have lived for 14 years now, lol.  It's a prison which I built for myself called self-employment.  Last I checked, modern medicine has not discovered a cure for it.  I agree with 50% of what you are saying; however, not only should McConnell and his Republican / Tea Party friends not collect a check, but neither should the President or his Democratic friends.

:-)

These arrogant people must laugh all day, they do nothing even when they think they arr doing something. All of them half to go till we get term limits.

Charles in #3:  I am totally against having term limits.  Having them takes my voting rights away.  I wished I could have voted for President Clinton for a third term, and because of term limits, I could not.

As far as not getting paid for not doing work, the Republican extremists in the Senate will not allow bills to come to the floor for a vote.  And for this, you blame Democrats?

(ps... try running spell check)

I agree with you Charles.  You are 150% correct.  This system was created for the 'common' person to serve and return home.  The longer that they sit up "on the hill", the greater the chances of having the wheels greased.

Khash:  First of all, it is impossible to be more than 100% correct.  Take it from a former math teacher.

Second, as far as "common" people... that was over two hundred years ago.  What we need is a mixture.  Folks who know how Congress works, and can compromise and get things done, and new blood to revitalize things and work for the future.

The folks who are not "common" people are folks like the Koch Brothers, and Aronson from Miami.  Multi-billionaires who have so much money they can buy WHOEVER they want.  And they have.  In November of 2012 they tried to buy the Presidency, and almost pulled it off.  Luckily they have more money than brains.

What I do think would work, would be to take about 40% of the most ultra conservatives... the Tea Party types, and about 15% of the liberals... and give them coloring books, and just let them play... that is all.  Kind of like in an eternal "time out" room.

Take the rest... 60% of the right of center and 85% of the left of center, and let them govern.  You know... compromise, give and take, the kind of thing that makes things work.  In my opinion, that should do it.

A new party... call it the "Centrists..." and learn to side-step those who set up roadblocks to progress.  Only as much gridlock as it takes... the very minimum... to succeed so we can quit playing political games, and start to work on the people's business.

Karen Anne, what happened when the congress was controlled by Democrats like US, ( I am a Democrat and yes liked Bill) But term limits is the way to keep repeating the issues we have. Once either is in office they vote however way will keep them there not their true feelings or what is best for America. Do you think they would vote themselves out of a job.

But I think you would agree the worst president of all time was Jimmy Carter and this clown we have now Barrack Hussein Obama. What a joke he is for America. You cannot tell me that he cannot accomplish anything because of congress, he got health care through which is a disaster but fits with his idea of bring America to it's knees. He is using executive order to trample the constitution.

At the risk of writing "old news"... President Obama is way better than Romney would have been, much better than McCain and "gasp" Sarah Palin would have been, and a ton better than Bush.  I would rather have had Bill Clinton than any of them, and surely would rather have had Hillary than the pack of them, as well.

Although it's no way to pick a president, we could have done a LOT worse than Barack Obama.
