Looking ahead to the 2008 Holiday Season, the Johnson County Christmas Bureau celebrates helping over 8700 people have a good Christmas AND begins to gather donations of food, clothing, toys, gifts, or personal care supplies. Some of the volunteers are busy writing thank you letters for donations, others are soliciting for 2008 or writing grants, speaking to the community about the work of the Board. Nearly 2,000 volunteers pitch in their efforts during the two weeks of the holiday season when the Holiday Shop is open to clients, while sixty more people are occupied year-round. Overhead is kept to a minimum; everything goes to the local residents of Johnson County. From the neighbors to the neighbors - all standing together to make fine finish to the year through a happier holiday.
A volunteer, non-profit organization, the Johnson County Christmas Bureau began service to the needs of low-income families of Johnson County, Kansa sin 1960. Donations enable the Board to provide assistance to clients at the Holiday Shop each December. Information and names are obtained from SRS, Catholic Charities and people in a position to observe the need such as school or church staff.
The group is set up with committees for specific project management duties which break the project down in enough pieces to get everything accomplished efficiently. Other committees cover gift categories, again divided into enough levels that nothing is left out. All gifts are new, except the used coats. A board of four organization members has oversight.
