What Does Foreclosures, Arson, and Burglaries Have In Common.

With California being #4 in foreclosures in the United States, many homeowners that are being foreclosed on are turning to some very unbelievable solutions.

  1. People in desperate times will due desperate things, with the foreclosure rate up many families are reporting that their home has been burglarized and turning in false claims into their insurance companies. It is a a shame that these homeowners feels that this is a remedy to their situation.
  2. Arson, yes, Arson, is on the raise, so many homeowners here have found that if they can not keep the home they set out to destroy it. Insurance companies are catching on they will do a background check and if your home is in foreclosure they will not pay out until and investigation has been done and it has been proven that you are not responsible for starting the fire.

It amazes me what the human spirit will do when times are tough. I know to many the solution that at the time seems to be an easy way out is really not. I find this situation to be very sad. No amount of discussion will change the facts. With this wave of foreclosures we will see many people take drastic measures.

What a terrible and sad situation. I saw a report on 60 minutes and it made me feel that a lot of this was caused by greed. I feel for the families that are losing their homes.

I would like to say that I am shocked but I am not. I would never think of something like that but know there are those that do. Now that I think about it, almost every time that a struggling business goes up in flames, it seems to be arson.

I guess I never even thought you could do such things, it would have never even crossed my mind to do this under these conditions. But, I do pray that the drastic measures don't lead to people taking thier own lives, but I afraid this too will be the next thing we'll see on the rise.

The problem I have here, is that it does not address any of us who are going through foreclosure the right way (if there is such a thing) and are really getting burglarized. My home has been invaded 3 times in the last 8 days, there is nothing left to take from it, yet it seems to be a target. I have had done the police reports, CSI (seriously) came out for eveidence, the whole nine yards, and won't return my phone calls. What's left for me to do? Stay overnight in a house where the utilities are off, with nothing to do all night in the hopes that they actually show up while I'm there? And what if they're packing heat? This situation is crap, and I thank our trusted government for their backing of unethical banking practices. And then, to read articles like this, insinuating its the homeowners......how about some counterpoint, maybe some research to back your thesis? Poor reporting, seriously......

Jeromy:

As they say every situation has an exception, and I am sure that in your case  ---- you have hit the trifecta, when it comes to being burglarized at a time when foreclosures are an issue. Unfortunately, statical data shows that many that are in foreclosure are resorting to drastic measures.

I can not claim to understand your dilemma, but, what I am confused about is --- What are these individuals taking if the home is vacant? What is there to burglarize?

Thanks for the counter point.
