I'm not sure how a guy named "Mundt" was allowed into Manhattan to live. But Manhattan, IL is the place I called home during my childhood years and my mom still lives there today.
Anyone that's familiar with Manhattan, located in the heart of Will County, knows that Manhattan has deep Irish roots. And they're darn proud of it! They'll also tell you proudly that Manhattan is the home of " Manhattan Irish Fest" each year ... a festival which started in 1995 and will be held once again on March 1st and 2nd of this year.
During "Manhattan Irish Fest", everyone that lives or visits Manhattan is Irish. During this annual event each year, I become Gene O'Mundt! Churches, civic groups, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, local sports clubs, families and friends ... all contribute to the fun and success of "Manhattan Irish Fest".
Once again this year, the sounds of traditional Irish bagpipes will fill the air when Irish bands perform in the Entertainment Area located at Manh
attan's Central Park and also during the annual "Manhattan Irish Fest" Parade.
A cultural area to help educate attendees about Irish traditions will be located at Anna McDonald School. Irish dance companies will perform throughout the day on Saturday, March 2nd. The Will-Grundy Genealogical Society will also be on hand to help those interested in learning about their Irish heritage.
A special Mass will be offered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 275 W. North Street in Manhattan, on Saturday, March 2nd, at 9:00 a.m. ... and followed immediately by the 2013 "Manhattan Irish Fest" Parade at 11 a.m. and then Rugby matches at Central Park starting at 1 and 2 p.m.

ALL attendees must have Buttons when they visit the 2013 "Manhattan Irish Fest" grounds or take part in Fest activities, including the Fest volunteers. Those children 7 years and under attend FREE of charge, when attending with an adult with a paid Button. Each Button costs $10.00.
