Reasons to open an email

I stumbled upon this post detailing why people open emails. Unsurprisingly, or surprisingly, the main reason an email is actually opened is based on the organization that sent it. And this harks back to building relationships with whom you send emails to and the importance of doing so.

And, of course, the second most important reason why emails get opened is the subject line.

Do you agree about the value of relationships? And what's the most important reason why you or anyone you send something would open an email?

The subject line is important. If it does not appear to be important people do not open the email

The top two reasons are basically the two critical components that creates user's perception about the "value" she is going to get by reading the email. There are other critical factors too .. like the timing of the email and day of the week the email is sent. Emails sent at wrong time could easily slip through the cracks and never be opened, simply because everyone gets dozens if not hundreds of emails a day.

Tony -- it would be interesting to know how the question was asked, and what percentage of people gave multiple answers (some must have to total over 100%).

Steven, it would be interesting to know how the question was phrased (it is a little supspect). However, the results do ring true and are interesting.
