A carpet pad with a moisture barrier can absorb moisture - both to prevent mold and reduce odors. These pads are typically ideal for basements with minor moisture (note: if you have a lot of moisture, carpet may not be a good option for your basement, regardless of type of pad used. A moisture barrier carpet pad can also help alleviate pet accidents so that the liquid does not reach the subfloor (which can be challenging and costly to repair.   We proudly offer Shaw's Triple Touch moisture guard carpet pad. Debbie, is this a fairly new product or has it been around for a while?  Sounds perfect for light moisture areas.

That looks like a great product!  I wonder what is in it that keeps molds from developing?  There has to be something put there to prevent it.

Being a landlord I know that a good quality carpet pad is just as important sometimes as the actual carpet!

Debbie, would you use this in a master bedroom as well?  Or just for basements.  I understand it will raise the price of the installation but is it worth it in a bedroom as well-near a bathroom?

Joanna - I have done it for some bedrooms as an upgrade in nicer homes.  But, usually it's not necessary.  I have some customers that just "want the best" and like that it's hypoallergenic.  It does help the carpet wear better, so it's nice, but not a necessity.

Debbie, This would be worth the extra cost for a basement or Florida room. Anything to keep mold and mildew at bay is worth it..

Debbie - I always learn a great deal from reading your blogs.  I can imagine a carpet pad with a moisture barrier would be valuable in a number of damp environments.
