First Page Ranking Is No Joke...

By

...when it's your business!

I was trying to locate a broker today to send him some information and figured, no problem, I'd just "Google" him.  So I entered his name and company.  Nothing!  What's up with that?  No, I am not talking about some newbie working for some unknown company...I am talking about a 10 year seasoned broker working for a top 10 brand name company.  I continued to look under the news search, the blog search and even the image search...nothing.

So next I searched for the Brand name he works for, with the added words Denver, Real Estate.  Embarrassingly enough, there were lots of the brand companies in every city through out Colorado...just not the company he is with in Denver.  His company was not even submitting the broker associate pages or perhaps their site is not set up properly for the spiders.

Everybody wants to have a web site and everyone is worried about having their site show up tops in ranking whether it is in organic or pay-per-click.   Let's all do ourselves a favor and promote your own personal name, your company name and your email with your phone number.  If you have ten minutes, you can come up #1 within the hour!  Just set yourself up a Google Adwords account.  Would you pay 5 cents to be found #1 on the biggest captive set of eye balls in the world?  Yep, for .05, that's 5 cents, spelled five cents... you can be NUMBER ONE on the pay-per-click (PPC) side of Google.  It does not get cheaper than THAT!  Even the cheapest broker can do this. I mean, 800,000,000 potential eyeballs and Google has well over 50% of the search traffic... YOU HAVE TO BE THERE!

Go ahead and Google my name, Mark Eibner, then look in the upper right corner and there I am (also my organic positions).  My Google Adwords Ad is pointed to my company site.  You could have it pointed to a number of places.  You could just have a landing page with nothing more than your e mail, phone number and a web address.  I have all my name phrases covered;  Mark Eibner, Mark T Eibner, Eibner, Mark Eibner Metro Brokers, Mark Eibner Real Estate and I have my Son's Name Alex Eibner and my wife's name Alison Eibner.  I also have misspellings of my name (which is common). The bottom line is that until you have lots of organic action, you can OWN YOUR OWN name and should.  It does not cost you a dime unless someone clicks on your ad.  And the lowest cost ad is 5 cents.  If you don't think you are worth 5 cents..please start looking for some other line of work.

Picture this, you just interviewed for a listing or a buyer listing.  You tell them how great and smart and cool you, and your company, are.  Let's say, it's close and there's someone else they also liked from the interview. They go to the net and Google your name, your company, etc.  You tell me what they find!

Do it yourself. What do you find?  What will they think when NOTHING IS THERE!  Well, I call that being a "Super Secret Agent"!  I personally have secured many listings, buyers, referrals and phone calls simply because I showed up on the first page with my name and a way to find me.

After you get your Adwords account taken care of, you can also get yourself on Yahoo search marketing. Then, get yourself a blog started and get RSS feeds on your website.  All of these things are easy to do and you won't have to pay some internet geek to take care of it.  Let's just take care of the simple things first. You must be able to be FOUND on the greatest marketing concept since Gutenberg and his press.

Help your business out starting today. Get the Adwords Account and a yahoo account and get your name in lights!  Don't forget to add every conceivable set of spellings of your name and company.  The ROI on five cents could be somewhere north of 1 million percent!

For those of you that already get it, and show up #1 in organics and #1 in pay, Bravo!

Ok Mark I downloaded your ebook and started reading just the first few pages.  Looks interesting and I have to go back and finish reading.  I'm waiting to see what the trick is for Ad words.  I appreciate the info, I guess the skeptic in me just wonders why you are willing to share?  Sorry, it just happens and I can not stop it.  I will let you know if I move forward of my progress and send you a big THANK YOU if it works.

You would happen to know any good sites that teach about doing your own virtual tour and what equipment one can use?  Have a great day!

Mark - I just flagged this post to be featured - I guess posting it at 12:11 AM did not get you much exposure.  Great information and you make it seem so simple - just wish I had the time to sit down and do all those little things to get the internet presence we deserve.  Thanks for all the pointers and I look forward to reading more great stuff.

This is a great post and I can't believe that more people haven't commented on it and why it's not featured.

With the blogging revolution going on as we speak and the web being where almost 80% of buyers start their search, I can't imagine why all agents and brokers would not be rushing to get their names at the top of the search engines.

I have several blogs up and running all geared towards different audiences (real/diaBlog, Loudoun StatsThe Ashburn Community Blog and blogback) and they return very high on various keyword searches on google, yahoo and others. Funny thing is, I haven't paid a penny for those keywords - it's all organic. Now that's ROI!

And some of my clients have admitted to "google-ing" me to check my credibility and find out more about me. If nothing were to pop up, surely they'd wonder...

With the new generation of buyers being more tech savvy than ever, you need to shift your strategy with the changing demographics and times. Otherwise, you'll be left in the dust...

Great advice on a simple implementation of AdWords. I've also heard it used as a way to test-market new ideas before rolling out a whole campaign. If the ROI isn't there on the web, it's a good indicator it won't make it in broadcast, print or direct mail either. I've featured this as well, and am headed back to look at your other posts to see what I've missed.

Great post!I just Googled my name and first on the list on both Google and Yahoo! is my Active Rain profile. Then my other websites. Since my name is so common when I type in Shannon Moore real estate about fifty other real estate agents with the same name pop up. I guess that's the breaks of having a common name.
