Pupatella Pizzaria – A Wood-Fired Gem in the Heart of Arlington, VA
Looking for one of the best pizzas in town?
Look no further than Pupatella Pizzaria, in the heart of Arlington, VA, a bustling walkable urban community minutes from Washington DC, where jobs are plenty, as well as the amenities, from residential to retail, this is one fabulous living destination.
As for Pupatella Pizzaria? Personally one of the best pizzas my tastebuds have savored, so far :)
Meeting up with a good friend who shared a fondness for all things buffalo mozzarella (2nd generation Italians make great dining buddies), she suggested this relatively-unknown-to-those-outside-of-the-beltway pizzeria and swore it was a taste of home. Indeed it was.
Made with the freshest ingredients – literally flown over the pond from Naples – the aromas tantalize you the moment you step into this “Friggatoria”, or “Fried Food Shop”. Their menu boasts numerous pizza formations as well as some delicious fried feasts, including traditional Italian favorites like Arancini – fried risotto balls filled with mozzarella and meats and choice of eggplant or peas – to fried eggplant or mozzarella balls.
But their pizzas – they are just out of this world. Fresh, flown-from-“home” ingredients, including San Marzano tomatos – considered by many chefs as the best tomatos used for sauces. An Italian Caputo flour is used for the dough, which, according to Pupatella, retains the nutrients otherwise stripped from processed flour found stateside. And the mozzarella – made with real water buffalo milk from the Campania region in Italy, which renders a "richer, tangier flavor" – is used to top these mouth-watering pizzas. And what brings it home, is this amazing wood-fire oven, flown in from Naples, which gives each pizza its authentic “leopard” spots of the dough, while searing in all of the fresh flavors together, making this pizza-tasting experience one to remember, and one that will surely bring you back for more!
