Where are the Journalism Standards??

By
Real Estate Technology with http://www.medicalandspaconsulting.com

I was watching CNN and they ran the story of Lance Armstrong and his legal problems as a result of illegal doping.  They also mentioned many professional athletes such as Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemons and others.  They then segued into a story of a Cenegenics doctor, Jeffrey Life, M.D. Dr. Life is 74 years old and has the body of a 30  year old. He takes testosterone replacment therapy and Human Growth Hormone (HGH).

The CNN reporter indicated that the use of anabolic steroids is linked to various health problems such as heart disease.  Well guess what....HGH is NOT an anabolic steroid!!!  Not even in the sam eballpark (pun intended) Where is the journalistic integrity. Millions of viewers were absolultey deceived and CNN will never correct the story.  I am certain that physicians at Cenegenics have pointed this out...but the damage has been done!!!

Things in writing Paddy, talk shows, saying a study says.... all make things believable even if they are not true. We must develop critical thinking for ourselves to ferret out the truth.

There aer no journalism standards anymore. Having lived in State College during the Penn State scandal it showed me that journalists were only out for a story no matter who they threw under the bus or what riots they incited.

Paddy, the news isn't news anymore. It is broadcasted as entertainment. I might add a lot of fictional entertainment.

I usually know bunk when I hear it, but I worry for all the younger people who have grown up thinking the garbage on television is "journalism."

Like the internet, the public believes everything they hear on TV, true or not.  This is a sad reality of our listening/reading public.  And this is also why there is a code of ethics for those of us in real estate.  This is worthy of a re-blog!

I have just decided to switch to Fox news. I have seen enough on CNN to support what you say about their journalism.

I'm with Margaret. TV is not journalism. To compare a TV news reporter to a real-life journalist is an insult to journalists everywhere.

Paddy~ life is full of professional mistakes, I don't one professional business that's not capable of being wrong- I think it is more about how you act after the mistake,

Jon, I agree 100%...but that is where I fault CNN..I can assure you, because I have consulted wiht Cenegenics, that they have contacted CNN many times, on many levels, and I wil predict that CNN will not correct the story...or they will do so in such a manner that it will not undo any of the damage that they did.

Paddy, I couldn't agree more.  There is a certain sloppiness appearing in the media today that needs to be called out.  When I heard Rand Paul ask a question in a Senate hearing that was originally misreported on Drudge, and later retracted by the blog, I knew that lack of integrity had permeated all aspects of what is suppose to be an informed society.

On the national and local "news" there is no such thing are reporting and journalism anymore.  There's currently "tort reform" propoganda going on in my state whcih would not only ALTER the state's constitution but limit and erode patients' rightts even further. NOT ONE local station is talking about it.

I don't really care about doping in sports.  I do, however, think that the doper should have asterisks by their records to let us know whose records are legit and whose are enhanced.

One of the things that I have come to believe in recent years, is there is far little truth, coupled with a vast number of agendas!

I might also add, the story about Lance Armstrong, isn't about whether HGH is an anabolic steroid or not. It's about the years of denial, while he was doping.  Add to it, that he actually sued folks for defamation, and prevailed against them in court.  They paid Lance large settlements, even though they had told the truth all along!

Forbe just did the same thing with a story on uranium and fracking. They claimed that the uranium industry was fracking. they were not even close fracking is used in the oil and gas industry. No correction where ever made and like you said the damage has been done in that the American people don't ask question , and believe 100% what they hear in the media. Reminds me of the ad of the girl that met her Boy friend on the internet and her is a French model ...

Where are the Journalistic Standards?  Paddy, please.  Take it from a former journalist, my news stories were never wrong unless the reader knew something firsthand about them.  We used to salve ourselves with the maxim that "daily journalism is a first draft of history", read: "noble, but fallible".   Writing a retraction, or correction?  I would rather have eaten scat, but the lawyers made us when complaints were lodged.  The bottomline is, everyone makes mistakes and news giants like CNN are receptive (though not necessarily conciliatory) to viewer complaints . I suggest you make the effort to contact them, the next time you hear something you know to be inaccurate.

Bottomline, and I know this won't thrill you, is that for all its foibles, our  so-called free press is a far better system for news and information than those controlled by governments, such as in China, North Korea, Syria, Cuba and the like.

Okay, I admit it, I have a blood pact with our First Amendment. Please don't sue me.
