Why I am a Fan of Virtual Charter Schools

I''ve been long aware of the many educational opportunities available to real estate agents online. I have taken many courses this way and now it hase become my preferred method of bettering myself. You don't have to bust up your day (or week) and can participate and study on your own time. I'm sure I don't have to tell you activerain members. Most likely you agree.

But for me, I some how never really saw this beyond the professional level. I'm talking about K-12 learning. How to explain this... You know how you can just go through your day-to-day routine and never notice a specific car until you own one yourself, then you seem to see them everywhere? They've been there all along. That's how I was with online K-12 education or virtual charter schools.

A couple of years ago, I didn't even know they existed. Then, my daughter was diagnosed in the eighth grade with a type of a constant daily headache that includes multiple migraines. I won't detail the long process it took to get to that diagnosis, but it was long. She managed to finish middle school and the first two months of high school, but by that time just being in that environment was too much for her. The rest of that year she met periodically with teachers after hours at our local library to stay on pace.

That's when I started to look into home schooling and was prepared to put my real estate career on hold for as long as it might take. While researching, I came across virtual charter schools offering classes in Indiana. We got as much information about them as we could and, after a lot of prayer, decided to enroll her into Indiana Connections Academy.Connection Academy Logo

This has been an absolute blessing for us. My daughter can learn at her own pace and not worry about missing classes when her headaches are at an 8 or 9 or if she has doctor appointments three hours away in Chicago. She has access anytime to her teachers, they have live lessons, projects, clubs, ...you name it. Plus, it's completely free and I can continue my career full time.

If circumstances have caused you to consider home schooling your child and you think it might be beneficial to place him or her in a virtual charter school, I highly recommend that you look into the various online schools that are offered in your state. This has saved my real estate career, but more importantly it has saved my daughter's academic life.

What a great concept, I wonder how that would work in my area (Savannah) Seems like it could solve a lot of problems and save a bunch of money.

Randy, cost is definitely another component. I don't know about where you live, but "free" public education is anything but. In Brownsburg, Indiana my oldest daughter is a Senior and her various fees this year have totalled nearly $700.00.
