Transform Your Home from Winter to Summer with These Easy Tips
As the warm, hazy days of summer come slowly into view, we tend to start to think of how we can transform our winter houses into summer paradises. It’s not that difficult to ease from a warm, winter home into a breezy summer one if you follow these tips.
Remove Winter Accessories
During the winter months we tend to have accessories to keep us warm, like heavy blankets and draperies, fire logs, heaters and anything that keeps us warm and cozy. Once the summer hits however, it generates its own heat, so remove any accessory that isn’t needed. For example, put away those thick blankets, space heaters and dark drapes; instead put up bright sheer draperies and bring in fresh flowers to brighten and freshen the room.
Bring Out the Outdoor Furniture
There aren’t too many people who don’t enjoy a good BBQ or outdoor party. Now that you and your friends and family can spend time outside again, bring out patio furniture and accessories. If you have the budget for it, you can opt for a whole new patio set complete with an outdoor margarita bar. If not, you can improvise by arranging an outdoor table with a big umbrella to give off an island appearance and freshen up the paint on existing chairs.
Bring in Fresh Air
In the summer months, we tend to keep the air conditioning on during those extremely hot days. However, if your house enjoys a good breeze or perhaps you live by a lake, then open those windows and let the fresh air in. Also, make your ceiling fans turn counter-clockwise to allow hot air to lift and away from you, plus this circulates the air more freely. One other tip, have your air conditioner’s filters changed and have your unit inspected by a professional before the start of the season.
Give Your Deck a Fresh Coat of Paint
Before the summer kicks in give your deck a fresh coat of paint; including, picnic tables, benches or Muskoka chairs and replace any deteriorated wood or furniture. This will make sure your deck and patio look summer fresh and keep your guests safe of any cracks or loose boards.
Other tips to think about; clean and check your BBQ before use to make sure it’s safe and your propane tank is filled. Also, put away snow blowers, shovels and salt and bring out the lawn mowers, rakes and fertilizer.
