Yes It's Official DC Metro Traffic Sucks

By

When I'm contacted by someone relocating to Northern Virginia one of the first questions I ask is "where will you be working."  It's not that I'm being overly nosey but where you work and the hours you will be working will help me make recommendations of neighborhoods that will be best suited to your commute.

We are fortunate in Northern Virginia to have an extensive public transportation system.  Not only do we have the DC Metro system which extends out to a number of areas (and expanding), we have the Virginia Rail Express (VRE) going as far south as Fredericksburg and west to Manassas.  When you add in regional buses and slug lines to the options are varied.

With the 3rd worst congested roadways in the nation learning how to use the public transportation system in the Northern Virginia area can save you 80 or more hours a year.  When you call and tell me about your relocation plans I'm going to do my best to help you use those hours for activities that might be more enjoyable than staring at the taillights in front of you.

For more information on neighborhoods with nearby public transportation options give Cindy Jones and CJ Realty Group a call at 703-346-2213.  Let us help you find the right place to call home when you relocate to Northern Virginia.

Joan-hard to understand why so many folks sit in traffic when they could choose one of our other transportation options.

I was down that way last week, and I'll be back this week.  I can verify that the Texas study on traffic congestion definitely labeled the DC area correctly, but with access to much comes traffic.  The Metro does make life easier for commuters.

I once visited my cousin in WV right outside of DC. So she took us on the subway just for kicks. Can't say it was enjoyable. The train was late, they sold us the wrong tickets so we had to buy other tickets and were a little freaky about getting  back home. Plus I had two toddlers, diaper bag, and stroller. I have much admiration for you traffic fighters. Most days driving to work I give thanks, I am so thankful my commute includes "NO" traffic. Even through the school zones it's a breeze!

Mike the metro and all of the other options make getting our the area easier.  It's not perfect, no plan ever is but if used the public transportation system works well.

Sherry-i'm guessing you meant your cousin lived in VA not West Virginia.  Sorry your experience with the metro wasn't a good one.  Yes trains do run late if something happens up or down the track but for the most part it is reliable.  Glad you live in a relatively traffic free zone.
