When your clients first contact me, they generally say that they are looking for a home in Palm Springs. What they usually mean is a home in the Palm Springs Valley. The Palm Springs Valley has several different cities. On the western border is Palm Springs proper. The city of Palm Springs has many many different neighborhoods, often characterized by their walk ability to downtown Palm Springs.
As you leave Palm Springs and travel more towards the center of the Valley, you will pass through Cathedral city, Rancho Mirage, Palm desert, Indian Wells, the more easterly city of La Quinta, all the way into Coachella. Each one of these cities might be exactly what you're looking for in your winter home, or perhaps your for full-time residence. That is why you need a realtor that is very familiar with the entire Valley not just one section of it.
The past four days I spent with some clients from Québec. Originally they came to the desert thinking they would be buying in Palm desert. No particular reason other than that was the city they were familiar with. We looked for homes in Palm Springs, North East and South Palm desert, La Quinta, and ended up opening escrow on a home in Indian Wells! I knew they would choose the city of Indian Wells after spending just a day with them… It seemed a perfect fit.
My clients are thrilled, and I feel like I made a perfect match.
When you're looking for property in the Palm Springs Valley, unless you are specifically searching with in one city, be sure to educate yourself about all the desert's wonderful destinations.
