Digging Out, in Connecticut! No Showings, Today!

By

The snow is still falling at 11:45am, but, it is falling slowly now.  As i was looking out the front window, I noticed this yellow vision coming down the road.  It was my Son, bringing the backhoe!  He owns Birch Mountain Earthworks and has all the right equipment needed in this weather.  Actually, they have rental, bobcats, etc., but today no one can get out.  People will be reserving equipment for tomorrow.  That will be our major dig out day.  I have a few listings that will need help in that regard. For today, thanks to him, my driveway is clear, my 4Runner has been cleaned off and ready to go.  My lab jumped in the truck, to go for a ride.  Sorry, Jack, not today! Yes, I have four wheel drive vehicle, but where would we go?  Everything, they say, is shut down.  A policeman posted on Facebook, to stay home, because Dunkin Donuts is closed! (LOL!)

Our Governor has asked everyone to stay off the roads, except for emergencies and snow clearing businesses.

Start of Blizzard 2013This photo, was taken late, yesterday!

Had to make paths for him, today!  He loves chasing sticks, that we throw in the yard.  Who knows where they are now!

What you don't realize when you look at the photos, is that the wind is blowing the snow and it is bitter cold.  The snow is not heavy, but, blows back on you as you try to clear it.  It seems like we probably had eighteen inches of real accumulation.  The drifting is causing some higher amounts here and there.

Plow trucks are getting stuck and most of our roads are still not ready.  It's getting brighter outside.  Maybe, the sun is going to come out, afterall?

Some people are without power and they will be working on that for awhile.  With the high winds, it's not wise to have buckets up in the air!

Stay safe, everyone in New England!  We're living in a Winter Wonderland!  Spring is around the corner!

Sharon, I can remember having more snow than this, however, the cold, bitter wind has made it much harder to work with. It was a true blizzard.  In 2010, we had two snowstorms, one right after the other.  When the snow is wet and heavy, it's actually, easier to deal with.  Thanks for stopping by.

Frances,  these pictures of yours, your home & your Son and his magic yellow machine really tell the story of Winter Snowfalls.  I wish you well; Keep safe.
Here in MI, our snow from this storm has fallen & we have been able to clear since Friday. Though am certain that this is not the end, it is still great to see the sun.
Thanks for sharing.

Frances, ouch.... that looks like really cold snow and as you mentioned the wind blowing makes it that much worst, we are so lucky in Austin to be having such beautiful weather. Give Jack a big hug for us and wishing you warm weather soon, thank God for your Son being able to shovel you out. Good Luck

Barb, It will take us days, to get back to some kind of normal.  Cold tonight, but Monday is looking warmer!  It will be interesting to see how many folks make it to Mass, tomorrow morning:)

Bob, The wind is the big issue.  Howling and bitterly cold, a true blizzard condition.  I am grateful for my Son, on so many levels.  Very lucky to have him.  Thanks!

Randy, Thank you!  Nothing like New Enland winters to make you appreciate warm weather!

Wow...that's a storm.   Something similar occurred in my area in the mid-90s...5 feet of wet snow in one night, and everything just shut down.

Fran, we're still waiting for the driveway to be cleared up. Our guy's truck broke down and he's waiting to get a friends equipment to help. We did have an honest 30", however.

Li, We had two feet, then two days later, another two feet, back in 2002, I think it was.  This snow isn't heavy.  Just bitterly cold and windy.

Joe, Our roof snow started to melt off today, thanks to the warm weather and rain.   Hope you got your roof cleared off!

George, I've heard that Middletown is a huge mess.  Maybe, being near the river brought you more snow?

Ed, The drifts are amazing!  When I went out today (Monday)  I was amazed at the amount of snow that had been piled up on the road sides.  Hope your guy made it to dig you out!
