KINGSTON, ONTARIO - Kingston is among 21 cities nominated to be named the world's most intelligent communities.
The nomination comes from the Intelligent Community Forum, a New York-based think-tank that studies the economic and social development of the 21st century. Kingston made the top 21 largely through its development of a fibre-optic communications network and a commitment to sustainability and green energy initiatives.
For this year's version of the Smart 21, the ICF focused on cities with “a documented strategy for creating a local prosperity and inclusion using broadband and information technology to attract leading edge businesses, build skills, generate economic growth and improve the delivery of government services”.
From our city's website:
"Utilities Kingston and Kingston Economic Development Corporation worked together on the application, which describes how our city's efforts meet the Intelligent Community Indicators and speak to this year's theme of Innovation and Employment. Kingston was one of only eight first-time applicants to be selected (out of hundreds of applications)"
Jim Keech, President and Chief Executive Officer of Utilities Kingston says, "This award supports our community's vision to become Canada's Most Sustainable City."
Add to this, last year's award of Kingston being "Canada's Most Romantic City", (see my blog from last year) and we are quite the place:
Smart and Romantic - what a catch!
This place we call "home" is a place to be admired and respected. A place you too can call home.
