Waiting to Buy? Don't! How Interest Rates Impact Purchasing Power

If you are a buyer looking to buy a home now is the perfect time. Interest rates continue to hover at their record lows and home prices are still well off their peak of a few years ago. In many cases buying a home can be less than the cost of renting. Especially for first time buyers, the low current interest rates will help them qualify for a home that they may not otherwise qualify for if and/or when rates begin to rise. I would encourage anyone considering buying to take advantage of the current buying environment and to lock in a great interest rate - this opportunity will not last forever!! The following chart put together by the California Association of Realtors shows how the mortgage expense varies at different interest rates.

David-this chart makes total sense, a slight increase in interest rates takes away allot of buying power. Buyers looking in Orange County should do theme-selves a favor and contact David Grbish for first rate service.

Hi Michael - you are so right on this one - rates can easily tick up a quarter point to a half point which can start to have an impact on both buyers and sellers. Regards Dave

David, There will always be people who sit on the fence waiting to time the market "perfectly" before executing their purchase. Many live with regret in not doing it sooner because interest rates and home prices increased while they were waiting for prices to hit rock bottom.

Hi Rich, we are seeing strong buyer demand here as well. I look at this chart as an opportunity for sellers to get max value for their homes while buyer purchasing power is high which could vanish as interest rates increase. Regards Dave

Hi Kathleen - most buyers get it but those who wait could be very sorry. Regards Dave
