Great Backyard Bird Count! February 15 – 18, 2013
Calling all birders! Your help is needed for four days, 15 minutes each day, for the Great Backyard Bird Count, which is taking place February 15-18, 2013. Here is a chance to make a difference doing something you enjoy: watching and counting birds in your backyard! This event takes place across the continent so you will be doing something in unison with many other birders to help give a picture of what is happening in the world of our feathered friends.
This count helps scientists and bird enthusiasts to get a better picture of what is happening with the bird populations during the winter months. Such a picture cannot be gained without the help of bird enthusiasts of all ages all across the continent.
All that is required is that you sign up on line and devote a minimum of 15 minutes per day to count the birds you see in your backyard, a nearby park or any place you choose. You do not have to be an expert; you just have to have a desire to look for birds and share what you see.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event led by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, with Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada and sponsorship from Wild Birds Unlimited.
The information gathered during these four days is very helpful in understanding what is happening with birds across our continent from year to year.
