BLIZZARD OF 2013
Remember this? It was accurate and then some
What a couple of weeks to live and sell real estate in Plymouth & Cape Cod. The good news is I did manage to sell a home and a lot during the storm. It is with mixed feelings I blog about the week. I lost power some 12 hours into the storm and then regained power after a 37-degree night trying to sleep in a bedroom where my breath was almost solid after leaving my mouth. Power was restored then promptly shut down again for another two days. Of course this meant no Internet, no work, no access to clients. There was a ban on any driving as well.
I filled a bathtub with water early on as I have a well, thus no showers possible. Thankfully I could use this to run toilets or I might have had the Carnival Cruise experience of waste running down the walls. Being a guy I could probably water the bushes but the wind had something to say about that. With 60-75 mph winds and snow drifts of 4ft., let’s just say my plow guy did his job and this was the highlight of my weekend. Well almost…
I can only think this buyer had nothing more to do than surf the net being housebound. Fortunately he was looking for a lot with specs closely matching my listing. We touched base and I tried sending info via online, as power would allow.
We traded emails and I even completed a P&S totally online. Well we did meet briefly in our Cape office to get the deposit in between storms. Then my cable modem died and Comcast informed me it would be a week for someone to come to my office. I now own my own cable modem.
The SFR was in fact underway but required an appraiser to see the house and a septic repair. Both were scheduled during the storm and the repair was competed today. The appraiser and I tracked through the snow and did manage to get it done.
With the fees I realized I decided I could not endure this again and had a generator installed. If Murphy’s Law is upheld I will likely not require the generator for years. But just knowing I can thumb my nose at Mother Nature in future is worth the price and effort.
So neither snow, nor sleet, nor rain will keep a Realtor from his sale in Plymouth & Cape Cod where there are homes for sale… or land. I need a sun break now so it’s off to the equator for some R&R. The preceding was and is a true story.
