Are 'Techy' Toys Just For Boys?

Mel Peterson - The Naked BloggerAre Techy Toys Just For Boys?  Say it ain't so!  I have to give credit to fellow Rainer Alan May for inspiring this post (he's been my muse on more than one occasion).  Recently, Alan made a comment.... 'you know boys love their toys.'  Well... my testosterone driven friend, thanks for indulging me in thought on that one... it just so happens girls like boy's toys too!

It all started 45 years ago, when my brother got a packet of army men for Christmas... I was jealous.  I wanted to play with those little green men and their bazookas, but noooooo, gender bias had already kicked in and my mother bought me a doll instead.  That didn't stop me... I found a pretty place to lay her head while I suited up in my imaginary fatigues and did bazooka battle with my brother.  Those were the days.

As our toys became more sophisticated, Barbie took a permanent back seat to my fascination for building houses with Lincoln Logs.  Clearly, I skipped to the beat of a different drummer and felt called for something greater than  dress-up and dolls.  With no daddy at home, I learned to tinker with things, becoming very resourceful with my bag of tools toys.

Fast forward 21st Century... many of my colleagues ask 'who' my tech person is when it comes to networking my office computers, printer and scanner.  I always get a surprised grin when I tell them it's me ;-) I suppose my early days of being a mortician, coupled with my curiosity for dissecting things, has led to my insatiable appetite for discovery.  Perhaps there's a tom-boy hidden in every one of us ;-)  Just sayin'... ALMAY!

I wasn't much of a tomboy but I don't remember playing with dolls much either. I was more of a game person. Especially, those games that required a strategy to win. I'm still using those skills today.

I'd still rather play with Barbie... are you perhaps for hire?   Mind you, my tom boy self does like to climb trees and play in dirt.

Ha!  Still do... Cheryl ;-)

You must be good at Scrabble... Tammie!

LOL... Tammy!  I'm doing a little project for a friend right now, cleaning up her computer and downloading all the software she needs to do business.

Hey Melpunzel, did you know Almay is coming out with a new soap?   Clever agent he is.

Pet cemetery, it's a tough job.  If you didn't do it, some other 6 year old would!   B

I was always good at taking things a part however I always ended up with spare parts when I put things back together. My parents were never thrilled for some reason...

Hahaha Mel some of this sounded really familar! While I was definitely also a fan of my Barbies and stuffed animals, that was more on rainy days than any other time. Otherwise, if the rain wasn't pouring down, I was out climbing trees, riding my bike, playing in the creek, and trying to find THE best spot to hide for hide-and-seek!

I also LOVED Lincoln Logs and played with them for years - and in fact, I still have a can of them. You know, for when kids visit me. Yeah, that's it.

LOL... Brian, I have no idea what possessed me at that tender age!

Smiles... Paul.  I had a photographic memory... so that part came easy for me ;)

My brother and I used to get into so much trouble...MEA!  When we were 2 & 3 years old, we rode our tricycles to a local market at 6am in the morning... NAKED!  It took the cops hours to figure out who we were and where we lived so they could bring us home ;-)

Mel, I've always been attracted to strong women who didn't necessarily fit the mold.  I remember this one young lady so many years ago who I found changing the King Pins/link pins in her 1963 VW Bug...I doubt most women would know what a king pin is (in a car) let alone trying to replace them.  Anyway she ended up working for NASA...oh yeah and I married her too!
