An Empty Bench, Full of Memories

 Empty Bench, Full of Memories

An empty bench full of memories.  In early 2002, a classmate of my oldest son had a nose bleed.  A common event for an active young boy, playing soccer, running with friends and just being a kid.  The nose bleed led to a Dr. Appt, which led to a diagnosis of leukemia.  The young man went through all the best treatments medicine could find, but it was to no avail.  The bench is empty, but for those that knew him, it brings back many memories.  Hug the ones you love, they are on loan for just a little while.

Indeed we must take full advantage of each day we have for we do not know what tomorrow holds.  I've lost 2 sisters in their 40's to cancer,my wife is a survivor and my Mother in Law battles the beast now. Life is precious and not to be wasted.

Hi John & Rebecca, Thanks for stopping by.

The plaque under the bench tells the boys name and dates.  This is located an East Lake Sammamish Park, near Margaret Mead Elementary.

Hi Jennifer, I was shooting pictures of the park when I came across it again.  I remember the boy, the family and the prayers that many across the community were praying at the time for them all.  While it's been over 10 years, it sure came back to me when I saw it again.

Hi Dan,

Yes this is a very empty bench and so sad for a young child to lose out on a long and happy life. As everyone has said, we must live every day as if it were our last so we never have any regrets. Thanks for sharing such a deep post.

Dan, it is always a great loss when it happens to a child or a young person.  The bench is really a great remembrance and your posting is a further tribute to this young person.  He lives on in this memorial.

A fitting memorial, and sweet tribute to one who had such a short time in this world.

Dan,  It's sad to lose a friend like Trevor - he's now living his forever life and his spirit is free. Nice that you posted this to his memory!
