Why do all of you stinkin Realtors ask me if I'm preapproved? I JUST WANT TO SEE THE HOUSE!
Can I get an hallelujah and an Amen for Jared for respecting his time and the time of all others involved in scheduling a showing.
Caller: Hi Jared. I'm calling about the home you have listed over on 1827 Awesome Avenue. It looks really awesome. Can you please tell me more about it?
Me: Hi Caller! Absolutely! It's a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home on a basement. It's really awesome, etc.
Caller: Sounds awesome. When can I see it?
Me: Well, I have some time tomorrow evening, or Friday before 2:00. Before we schedule it, I'd like to ask you a few routine questions if that's okay.
Caller: (Sounding a little less than thrilled) Sure...
Me: Are you currently working with a Realtor?
Caller: Nope. I just call the agents on the signs.
Me: Okay. Have you had a chance to talk to a lender about getting a preapproval for a mortgage?
Caller: Why do all of you stinkin (She didn't say stinkin) Realtors ask me if I'm preapproved???!!! I JUST WANT TO SEE THE HOUSE!!!!!!
I hung up on her because I won't be talked to like that, but if she would have been nicer and stayed on the line, I would have explained to her why all of us stinkin Realtors ask her if she's preapproved.
1. If we show homes to folks that aren't preapproved and can't get a loan on a home, it wastes their time, the seller's time, the listing agent's time, and MY time. I don't like people wasting my time.
2. Getting preapproved for a loan will tell you exactly what you can afford comfortably.
3. Getting preapproved lets everybody know that you are a legitimate buyer.
This is a business. Us stinkin Realtors get paid when we close a home. To close a home it takes a buyer that can get a loan. How do you know if you can get a loan? By getting preapproved. If I got paid $50 per showing, I'd show you 40 homes a day... but I don't.
I'm not trying to be insensitive here. If you do get preapproved for a loan, I will gladly roll out the red carpet and make sure you get the best service a Realtor can provide. But if you can't even take 5 minutes to make a phone call to a lender to get preapproved, I'm out. It's that simple.
