Recently, there have been a number of break-ins in Central Massachusetts. Last week alone, there was a break-in that happened very close to my home. The police found a drunk man from Westborough in this house, and the guy claims that he had mistaken the home for one of his friend's.
Personally, I find this guy's story hard to believe. The home in question is more than 10,000 square feet in size, and there just aren't that many homes like it in Northborough.
Anyway, I thought that some of my neighbors might be interested in the attached article, Protecting Your Home from Break-ins. Some of the biggest takeaways include the following:
Use timers on the lights to make people thnk you're home even when you're not.
Ask a neighbor to get your mail each day instead of having the post office hold it.
Make it difficult to get into your house by locking all doors and windows, and making sure that no tree limbs are extending close to the home.
Common sense tips, but it's easy to forget some of these basic things. Better to be safe, than to have your property taken when you're not home.
