This post is for a fun contest on Active Rain. Yet, I hope that each real estate professional that reads it will choose to strive to be a lifelong student, continually working to become even better.
For my version of Top Gun - I am accepting suggestions for who plays which part. Most real estate professionals have egos very similar to those of fighter pilots. We all want to be the best. Yet we must work together as part of a team. (Watch the opening scene of Top Gun.....notice how many people are involved in addition to the pilots.) A real estate transaction is very similar. There are a lot of people involved - real estate brokers, stagers, home inspectors, mortgage professionals, appraisers, the title company, home warranty companies, repair professionals, etc. There are a lot of roles to be filled in my version of Top Gun.
Me....I'd like to be a female version of Iceman, I think. His best friend doesn't die. He stays calm and follows the rules. He graduates the TOP of the class. However; at my age with my background in the military, time spent selling homes and teaching real estate licensing classes, maybe I should be Viper? Who would you want to be?
Here goes:
In 1986, Paramount Pictures brought us Top Gun. The movie starts: “On May 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to ensure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world. They succeeded. Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it: Top Gun.”
On February 24, 2013, Sondra Meyer, owner of Star View Real Estate, is proposing to establish an elite school for the top once percent of real estate professionals. The school’s purpose will be to teach the lost art of working in a seller’s market.
Furthermore, the school wants to ensure that graduates will not only make a lot of money with which to create legacies; they will be leaders in the real estate industry. They will be ethical and socially responsible AND armed to engage in war against the types of industry practices that allowed the Savings & Loan crisis in the late 1980’s and the most recent financial and housing crisis’s to occur.
Top Gun for Real Estate Professionals will be held in Colorado Springs on the UCCS campus. The Colorado Springs area will take your breath away.
Note: All photographs were taken by Sondra Meyer while watching Top Gun on a new 52" television on 2/16/14. (With such a big screen, I almost felt like I really was on the set taking pictures.)
