Has Some SEO Theory Gone Too Far, Part II??

After writing Part I, I decided to address an aspect of SEO that may have gone too far. Videos!!!

Videos are a necessary and vital aspect of any SEO strategy.

However, like many people in our society, I sat down on Sunday morning to catch up on some emails that I saved during the week...emails that appeared to have some content that I may like to read.  I started going through them in detail. Email after email had lengthy, drawn out videos that were up to one hour in length. You would have to suffer through a long winded diatribe by some info marketing "guru" to get to the facts. We have all received these emails..'Learn the insider secrets of Wall Street Billionaires" or "Top ten foods to achieve weight loss" or "Boost your personal awarenesss with these ten tricks".

The problem is that the bounce rate on these videos is extremely high, so what is the purpose?? Sure, you are getting people to click on the video link, but the message is not being heard!!!

Studies indicated that Americans assign authority to voices of British or Australian dialects. That is why so many infomercials and  videos are in these dialects. That is also why so many of the annoying videos are in these dialects.

I can tell you with a pretty high degree of certainty...the most effective videos are about 20 to 30 SECONDS in length and they achieve the highest search engine results....the best videos are NOT over 20 minutes, or even pver 5 minutes....

Paddy: Thank you for speaking up--I thought it was just me being anxious about my lack of time!! I see the video as a particularly intrusive form of marketing; that is unless it is very brief and to the point! In that form it can be quite a boon. I do get all kinds of them and most are fairly targeted but no one should have to go through the painful viewing of an incessantly long video to get the point!

Pam, the best videos are VERY short...however, since the information that an agent may provide cannot be that short, I recommend a series of short vodeos that direct the viewer to longer videos that are no more than 5, 6 minutes in length.

Paddy -- you mean when a commercial on television that is 15-30 seconds is too long for many Americans to sit through/pay attention to, that any videos we use should be in that same time frame?  Who would have known.

the attention span of the average American is propbably LESS that 15-30 seconds based upon the garbage commercials that we see today!!!
