Every Word is a Winner in Scrabble Tournament
What word game is tons of fun, gives you points for every word you make and is played with friends?
No, not Words with Friends. Here’s a hint: it used to be called Criss-Crosswords. Give up? OK, for 14 points, here’s the answer:
The ubiquitous board game Scrabble is coming to Meriden on Wednesday, February 27th, courtesy of the Literacy Volunteers of Meriden/Wallingford. Their annual tournament is being held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, and is a fundraiser for the group’s literacy programs. Teams of four will compete against each other in either the Town vs. Town section, the Friends and Family section, or the Student section. The cost per team is $100 for the Town and Friends and Family sections, and $60 for the Student section. At the end of the game, the top five scoring teams will be tallied, and whichever group has the highest point average wins the challenge. Light refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar and a raffle as well. Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce President Sean Moore and United Way of Meriden and Wallingford President Jim Ieronimo will be the hosts, with Moore open the evening and making the introductions before gameplay starts, and Ieronimo will be in charge of the raffle.
Remember, this is all for raising funds for a good cause, helping to train tutors who in turn help adults at the lower levels of literacy. If you know three friends who love a challenge and are good with words, enter your team now before time runs out!
