Footprints in the Sand A Spring Celebration
May 19, 2013 Wrightsville Beach NC
I've always felt that Charity Begins at Home and never is this point driven home more for me than when I learn of all those being helped by The Good Shepherd Center here in Wilmington NC.
The Good Shepherd Center has been feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and fostering the transition to housing here in the Cape Fear Region for 30 years. And while I hate that there is a need for them; I am thankful for the staff, the volunteers, and those who donate loudly or quietly, but always consistently, to making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable of us.
In the last year The Good Shepherd Center set an Agency record by rehousing 238 guests! Their Second Helpings program redistributed 240 tons of salvaged food last year and approximately 85,000 hot meals were served to the hungry through their Soup Kitchen. Their Medical Clinic averaged 100 individuals served each month and 50 guests received needed prescriptions at no charge!
None of this happens without fabulous volunteers and community involvement. From the gifts of time, money, and donations of clothing or food; The Good Shepherd Center is able to Be the Change We All Want to See. I could sing their praises all day, every day – but today I want to tell you about a Spring Celebration they are having to celebrate their 30 years in our community.
Footprints in the Sand, A Spring Celebration takes place on Sunday May 19, 2013 from 3p ~ 5p at the Blockade Runner in Wrightsville Beach NC.
Come enjoy a family friendly afternoon of special prizes, live music (I hear one of Seth Moody’s bands will be there!), heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages at what National Geographic named “One of the Best Surf Towns”, Wrightsville Beach NC. There will also be a raffle for 3 BIG prizes, one of which I’m told is a surfboard! Tickets are $30/pp and can be purchased here.
Sponsorships are available and they are accepting donations for special prizes to be given out during the afternoon. You can contact Logan White at 910.763.4424 ext. 113 or via email with any questions.
I hope you'll be able to join us on May 19th as we celebrate 30 years of The Good Shepherd Center and all the wonderful work they've done to comfort and strengthen our community.
Many thanks to The Good Shepherd Center for the photos and information used in this post. Not only do they help the homeless and hungry -- they found the time to help a little ol' REALTOR® put this post together. Told you they're amazing!
