Nothing says girls’ night out like a trip to the local couples resort…not. On the other hand, it can make for a fun twist when comedians are involved.
I took off one Friday night to Paradise Stream, one of three lusciously romantic couples resorts at Cove Haven. We went to see a Rock of Ages show that started with a fun band called Something Sarah’s and ended with some hilarious comedians that had everyone howling.
As usual we arrived late, mid-show. Trying to sneak our way through to saved front row seats was not all that effective. Luckily we got there while the band was playing and host Scott Bruce, from Wisecrackers Comedy Club, started us all off on the laugh track.
The first comedian was Sherry Davey, a quirky and sarcastic ginger with a fun English accent that really got our attention here in the mountains. Her skit on raising kids up through the teen years was wickedly entertaining, especially for the moms out there. Some nodding their heads in comical commiseration, while others, like me, couldn’t help but laugh right through our fear of the future. Thank you Sherry for scaring the $#@% out of me!
The other star of the night was Pat Godwin, known for combining his side-splitting wit with comedic song writing, a great singing voice and surprising guitar talent. Sitting at a table full of ladies surrounded by couples, we were irresistible targets from the get-go. The crowd was roaring and I was close to tears when he picked me out for a spontaneous serenade. After asking my name, car, job and a few other details, he let it rip with a mischievous Springsteen rendition that blew everyone away. From my point of view, absolute impromptu dynamite!
The night ended with those three gut busters on stage, answering questions from the audience. We learned a little bit and laughed a lot more…about how they got where they are and do what they do. After that amusing segue, Something Sarah rocked back on stage and crooned some couples onto the dance floor. And then—bam! The sweethearts disappeared. Go figure.
So do you have to stay at a resort to enjoy such time-flying entertainment? Definitely not. You can crash the party anytime, the Poconos await! (post written by guest blogger, Michelle Evans)
