1st Annual Bowling for Backpacks Saturday March 2, 2013 Wilmington NC
A backpack is a lifeline for a homeless person – most of what they own is in their backpack. That’s a concept most of us can’t even imagine.
This Saturday March 2, 2013, you can help The Good Shepherd Center make a difference in the lives of homeless people in our area. Bring an empty backpack, a full backpack or just items to help fill backpacks to Cardinal Lanes Beach Bowl at 7026 Market Street in Wilmington and then stick around for a fun afternoon of bowling.
The tournament is for all ages and skill levels and will consist of 4 person teams bowling 3 games. There will be raffles throughout the day as well as awards. Sign-in begins at 12p and the bowling begins at 1p. Entry fee is $25 pp. To sign up or help sponsor this terrific event, contact Corey Lewis at 910.409.3369 or email.
Thanks to the generosity of Two Men and a Truck, The Good Shepherd Center will also have a 16' box truck on site to accept donations for other needs of Good Shepherd such as food items, gently used bikes (for a person getting back on their feet, transportation is imperative to getting and keeping a job!), Wal-Mart gift-cards, clothing, cleaning items, grocery gift cards and monetary donations. I've been told by Logan, one of the Awesome Staff Members at Good Shepherd, that they'll be accepting just about anything you've got to donate! You can check out their wish-list for more ideas.
Wondering what to fill a backpack with? Travel size toiletries, 7 day pill organizers, reading glasses, socks, gloves, hats, over the counter medicines, rain ponchos, sunglasses and wallets or small purses.
Hope you won't miss a fun afternoon of bowling and making a difference in our community!
