Blogjacking

I don't know if this is a "usual" and accepted practice, but here goes.

I find that contributing in different forums has increased my search ratings when someone enters certain keywords into a search. Of course, we all know this.

I try not to "blog" simply for the purpose of "blogging" and I certainly put plenty of effort to keep my contributions original and worthy.

During a recent search, I found that someone has attached their website to a blog that I posted.

When you look at search results, you see my name and a partial of the blog. When you click on it, it brings you to someone else's website/contact page.

I realize that this is some form of a compliment, like when someone looks at your girlfriend because she is pretty. Looking doesn't bother me... but you can't take her home. In my mind, this is a sort of plagiarism and it bothers me. I there anything I can do to prevent this?

Steven, it is very unfortunate that folks find it necessary to copy others work.  I'm sure that they do it simply due to their lack of knowledge and most likely they are just trying to  impress others and this is the only way they can do it.

I have noticed that over the past year that this has become almost the norm on Active Rain.  Bloggers search the Internet for anything that they can post on and they seldom give credit to the source of the information.  All they are doing is trying to increase their rankings.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed the increase of folks just advertising their business and services, kind of like preaching to the choir if you ask me!

Steve

I'm courios, I'm not much of a blogger  but I've noticed when reading others bloggs they may mention another blog and may even put a link to it to reference it. I'm not sure if this is the prctice you are referring to. What is acceptable prctice.

Hi Ralph,

No, I am not talking about a link from one blog to another, in which case being brought to another place give the author the opportunity to realise it's author.

What I am referring to is more like looking something up in the phone book and finding that someone has replaced your phone number with their own.

There are sites that scrape content from you and place it on their own site.  You need to check and see if this is what is happening.  If it is find their webmaster and tell them to stop.

Hi Chad,

Hey pal, It's great to see you here. I look forward to you contributing. There are a lot of really good folks here, inspectors and non inspectors.

Everybody, Chad is a good friend of mine and is one of the most experienced inspectors I know. I have learned quite a bit from him and I'm glad to see him here.

Yes, Maria is beautiful. We go back a long way... about 25 years.

Steve,

Can't you just delete their comment with their link from your blog?  It is probably a good practirce to install a link to your website on your blog.  I also like Carl's idea, of going directly to the source.  Call the guilty party.
