What is a Forever House?

What is a Forever House?

On last weeks radio show All About Real Estate, the question was asked.

"What is a Forever House?"

forever house

To me a forever house is one that, if you choose, could be lived in for many years and age in place.

For example the family could be raised in the house, the grandparents would have room if they visited, the children could come back from college or with their own families. It is a house that would accommodate multi-generations and everyone still feel comfortable. One such home is

  3521 Autumn Drive in Pikesville

It has four large bedrooms and three complete baths. With two bedrooms, two baths, each with walk in showers, on the first floor, the possibilities for lifestyle accommodations are available. Upstairs are two more large bedrooms with a full bath and room for expansion if needed.

The convenience of one level living is available with the master bedroom, dressing room, family room,  laundry room, craft room, sun room and spacious living, dining room, kitchen, 3 car garage and workshop are all on the main level. This Forever Home is sitting on a corner lot .76 acres and has a circular drive.

Do you have other examples of Forever Homes?

Margaret,  That sounds like the kind of home I grew up in.  There was always activity, company, family, and love! Where did those times go?  Good luck on the sale, I love your approach!

Margaret, you reminded me of my grandparents - the village they lived in India - those houses were really forever - many generations lived there, and they were not concrete or brick homes.

All the best for a quick sale of this home - may be at open house? (It's happening once again....houses are selling at open house!)

Margaret, I suppose when the forever house sells, it will be many many years before it sells again since it is a forever house!

Selling Homes Changing Lives

Hi Margaret,

Last year I had clients and it took a long time to decide on which house was going to be their Forever House. At first, I didn't understand where she was coming from because her needs and wants kept shifting. Then we talked and I discovered, every time she saw a house, she didn't just see a home for herself. She took into account her parents, the people they knew who would be coming over to spend the night, her young family and how they would grow up in that house. In other words, she saw the whole life story and she wasn't about to settle until she found her ideal Forever House.

Thanks for writing about this because it paints a different picture and for some people the Forever House will take longer - patience does pay off!

I've known FOREVER neighborhoods. People do not leave unless they die, or are forced to move to assisted living or closer to children. Forever is a place that someone loves so much that they can't imagine being anywhere else. Its not always about the house, often times is about where it is at. It is about the community and the relationships that have been formed over the years.  :)

Jennifer, These homes are filled with memories.

Jeff, It will be a lucky buyer who gets this home.

William Johnson, You inspired this post with your question.

William, Continue to enjoy your forever house.

Sally, I would love to hear about your mother's forever house.

Paula, Thank you.

Patricia, Patience is the key when looking for this forever home.

Joni, You are so right about the home and the neighborhood.
