Did you learn anything today?

Everyday we encounter and hopefully learn lessons from our experiences.  Today was one of those days.  As a Fayetteville NC real estate agent or broker, I am always learning new lessons even after almost 12 years of active real estate sales.  Some of these are helpful to me as a NC Real Estate Commission approved instructor as they become examples in the classroom.

So, what did I learn?  Our business is very fragile.  While we think we are in control and have everything in order, some outside force or group or individual still can mess it up.

When there is more than one person controlling the real estate closing, you have no control.  You can only pick the very best folks you work directly with and hope the individuals behind the scene will have the same commitment and dedication to the public to get the job done with the least amount of issues, as you do.

It doesn’t matter what the issue is, why do they wait until less than 24 hours to say “oh, we need” or “oh, we must have” before we can release the closing package to the attorney’s office.  When do you tell the clients?  How do you call someone enroute from a great distance with a trailer or truck that they may not close because they don’t have a certain form.  It has only been 30 days since they received the file.  Oh, did I tell you their needed document is inside some 34 foot trailer or a moving and storage warehouse or on still overseas?

So, how do you prevent such lack of concern on our clients or the public?  Do you make your folks commit to certain standards?  Please share!!

Doug~ that is probably what have the biggest issue with...the "other" people in the transaction.  I do hate for my clients to get last minute surprises but sometimes it is inevitable.
