I miss snow days....

Real Estate Agent with The Griffin Team @ Keller Williams Realty Associate RE Broker

Each morning I wake to the radio and intently listen for the weather forecast, do I have to worry about a hurricane?  It got me thinking about when I lived up North and how each winter morning I would pray for a snow day!  With a snow storm everything looks pretty.  A snow day meant permission to stay home and catch up on household stuff, play games with my son, perhaps make a stew in the crock pot and bake cookies.   It meant I could stay in my pajamas all day long.  Well OK - I would get dressed to shovel the snow and make snow angels, but for the most part a snow day was a fun day.

Dealing with a hurricane day it is something different and there is nothing pretty about it!  There is no lounging around the house, there is securing the house, making sure we have our hurricane supply kit ready and intently watching and waiting - do we need to leave our home?   If so where are we going to go?   We have days of watching before a storm -- and everything seems to go in slow motion.  As a Realtor there is checking to make sure our clients are prepared and aware.    Afterwards, the cleanup isn't as easy as shoveling a path to the mailbox or putting salt on the ice and there never seems to be enough hours in the day.

Right about now, a snow day sounds really nice....  and to think when I did have them I didn't really appreciate them!  So the next time you turn on your radio and it is going to be a snow day - embrase it for me!  I really miss them...

Colleen I grew up in Minn. and loved the snow as a child.  Now hurricanes are a big responsibility when it comes to listings.  Most of our owners live thousands of miles away and we had to check on every home.  The team really stepped up to the plate and everyone helped.  We took photos and were lucky that only one home had any type of substantial damage.

I have had few days for snow, but we have had a few. There was 1964,then there was 1990 something. Then the xmas of 2004. This happens to match the 3 hurricanes I remember Betsy Sept 9, 1965, Katrina Aug 29,2005 and Camile which hit the gulf coast hard in around 1969. I was in college and dont rmember much from that experience. It just does'nt snow much in New Orleans. we are south of Pennsacola, Fla and an hour and something from Cancun, Mexico.

Colleen,  I hate the snow, have since I was a child.  Now, when I see the glistening white droplets fall from the sky I pray that it will melt before it hits the ground.  Snow of any significant amount means I have to get out the shovel and hope that it won't become the marker for my lifeless body as it drops to the ground.

I don't do enough exercise (unless you count going up and down stairs a lot in other people's homes) to be a great physical specimen.  Therefore, I'd much rather watch snow created by soap suds (or whatever they use these days) on the silver screen.  Personally I'd much rather be sitting with my toes in the sand watching a palm tree swaying in the breeze.  Besides, did you ever see snow the second day, after the dogs and traffic have gotten to it -- not a pretty site.

Geri -- I grew up in Buffalo NY and lived on Long Island and NJ for many years before coming to Sun and Sand...   Yes the days after suck and the months of gray skies...   I just was thinking I could really use a snow day right about now...
