What Color Should I Paint My Front Door?

Have you ever wondered? Talk to a professional Home Stager and it probably ranks right up there with the top ten questions sellers ask, because most of the time we'll recommend your front door could use a coat of shiny, new paint or stain, whichever applies. (See my previous post http://activerain.com/blogsview/3643681/seven-fast-fixes-for-selling-your-home for a few more tips.)

It’s the first rule in curb appeal. If your door is faded, peeling, sad and tired looking, then that’s the buyer’s impression of your house.

Kind of like going to the store without your lipstick.

Check with your Broker or certified Home Stager to confirm if you should either apply a fresh new coat of the same, or a snappy new hue.

Keep these things in mind when approaching a new color: existing exterior including trim, stone, brick, roof color and shutters.

Here are a few of my current favorites:

 ·        Benjamin Moore Firenze AF 225

·        Benjamin Moore Baby Seal Black 2119-30

·        Sherwin Williams Naval SW6244

·        Sherwin Williams Rookwood Red SW 2802

What’s on my front door?

·       Benjamin Moore Heritage Red (Exterior)

What's on yours? Write or, better yet, post it here. I'd love to see what other fun colors the AR community paints their front door!

Finding the right color combination that blends with the style, brick or siding, etc.  makes all the difference.

Kim- I love front doors and I think they can make or break a house.  Loved seeing the colors and how well they looked.

Hi Joanna, that's too funny we share the same door color. I changed it a few months ago. The original homeowners had painted it a dark red, but I wanted something a bit more cheery and brighter. If Scout has been digging that day, then yes, she comes with the house. :)

Exactly, Kathy. My bright red door doesn't go with a yellow house. Some combos can look a little garrish.

Front doors can really make or break the facade of a home can't they, Kathy? I love 'em too. Thanks!

We painted ours a color called Cherry Red, I believe it's Behr. We found a hue in the japanese maple out front and in our brick that would compliment the two. Great examples Kim, love your front door too!

LOVE IT, Karen!!! Gorgeous with your brick - and Japanese maples are stunning so how clever of you to find a hue from nature! Thanks for sharing :)

Kim - I love red doors.  I particularly like your door stop - he's adorable!  I'm also a huge fan of black doors.

Enjoyed your post.  Here is my front door.  It is a custom taupe color because I had to match the screen door which I had spray painted. We had the siding changed shortly after the screen door had been installed..not good timing. I wanted to keep the screen door because I love the breezes through my house.  Sometime function does trump fashion.
