Did I just do THAT?!

Did I just do THAT?!

With today's technology and texting being a primary source of communication with friends, family, business acquaintances, prospects, customers, clients; I find myself utilizing my cell phone to 'talk' with people via texting.  Oh my, the possibility of an entire new set of issues.  Not to mention, the abbreviations that still have me baffled and confused.  I find myself double checking what I just put in writing and to whom it is being sent.

Did I just text a message that was meant for my Broker and was sent to my friend?  Or did I just text a message to my friend that was meant for a client?  OR did I just text a message that was meant for my Broker or friend and it was sent to my client?!

Has this happened to you?  Really?  Did I just send that message without looking and checking to make certain that the text that I just wrote was being sent to the correct recipient?  I can't tell you how many times that I have hit the 'Send' button and then looked to confirm the recipient AFTER I hit the 'send' button.

Did I really do that?  Basically, it could be harmless.  However, with today's technology, unless we slow down and double check ourselves; we can make HUGE mistakes .... in writing!

For those of us who utilize our cell phones to communicate, please don't find yourself in a situation where you are humiliated and saying, 'Did I just do THAT?!"

Thank you Fred. Good warning, and I just thought it was a major OOOOOPS. I'm also a Realtor in FL, and that is good information. However, with all of the technology these days, either I'm getting older or just not savvy enough for all that is happening these days. Maybe both ....

Christi,

This happened to me as well, I was in the middle of a text conversation, when another texter chimed in, I responded to texter #2 instead of texter #1.   Is texter even a word??? LOL

Hi Carmela,

Good question regarding Texter.  I don't even know if 'Texted' is a real word?  With all of this new technology, it really can get overwhelming.  And speaking of what you did about texting and then having someone text you while in the middle of another text .... that has happened to me, also.  Yikes!  I'm always 'trying' to be so careful.  Just the other day, I hit the send button and THEN looked to see if it went to the intended person.  Sign of relief as the correct name popped up on my phone!

BTW, loved your Blog on Listening. Awesome and so true. Again, thank you!

It's those auto-corrects and abbreviations that will get you.  Turns emails into some pretty funny fodder for Facebook posts, but not good for business.

Hi Joetta.  Pretty scary for sure.  Between proofing those auto-corrects and triple checking to whom it is being sent ...... I just want to pick up the phone and talk to them.  I negotiated a contract via text.  No, really, I did.  Crazy.

Thank you for your response.  I'm learning this blogging thing - very slowly.

Hi Joan! That's sweet of you to say.  I've been commenting on blogs! Does that count?  You're right; I've been afraid to take the plunge.  Have to get over the fear of making a mistake.  Thank you for the encouragement; I needed that!

Christi...  I sent an email to a friend that was supposed to go to a client... both have the *same name* first and last.  How is that for confusing?  I was wondering why I didn't get a response... I found out a few hours later,  to my horror, why!!!  This was not one of my finest hours.
