Do you take weekends off?

As a Realtor, do you take weekends off or do you work on weekends.  Many businesses take weekends off, but our industry has us working when most people are off.  There are still some Realtor's that take Sunday's off.  Do you?

For a Realtor weekends can be a great time to do many activities to connect with potential clients:

- Open Houses

- Showing Homes to both husband and wife at the same time

- Meet with both husband and wife about selling

- Call around listings and connect with more potential clients that are home on weekends

- Door knock a neighborhood

- Visit yard sales to see if they are thinking about selling

These are just a few activities that Realtor's can do on the weekends that they may not be able to do during the week.

So as a Realtor, do you take weekends off?

I teach a Bible Study on Sunday - I am "off" until 1:00PM or so.  No exceptions.

But Sunday afternoon, and all day Saturday?  I will work, show houses, etc. as needed.

I try not to work weekends if I can, but that hardly ever works. I'm a home inspector, not a Realtor however many home buyers prefer to schedule their home inspections for Saturday or Sunday. When requested I will inspect on those days.

I try not to work on Sunday but like Fred, I do so on an "as needed" basis and don't work on Sunday morning but will do afternoon.

This afternoon I spent 2 hours showing an apartment building to an investor/buyer, then two more hours showing properties to another investor. And I worked all day yesterday as well...don't do it often but if I don't, someone else will...

Yes, I worked all day this past Saturday doing an Open House, and showing homes afterward, Then, on Sunday after church services, I did another Open House. I sometimes take off during the week, so I can work on the weekends.

BTW, Welcome to Active Rain! You have made a great decision to be a Rainmaker.

I do go to church on Sundays, but I go to the early service and have no problem showing folks any time after 10:30 am. I've never had anyone tell me that the had to find a different agent that could show them earlier on a Sunday morning. ☺

Welcome to the Rain! Thank you for visiting my blog tonight. I appreciate you stopping by and commenting! ☺

Hi James -- there's no typical week for me - and that's okay!

Welcome to ActiveRain, and to the group James.  Excellent graphic in your post.  You make some very good points on why it could be an advantage to work on Sunday.  From what I read on most posts "in the Rain" real estate can be a 24/7 kind of job.  Best advice is work when you've got the opportunity to make money.

James, I work weekends If I need to. I believe we all need time off and we have to work that into our schedules.

James - Like many others who have commented I prefer not to work on Sunday as I enjoy having that day to spend with family but have on occasion bent my own rule when a client does not have any other time available.

Hi, James...like everyone I would like to have the weekend off to spend time with my family, but it doesn't always work that way. I will work as I'm needed to work. I love what I do, so it's all good.

Hi James,

I do need to take time off but I always schedule clients at their convenience..many of them work all week and only have the week-end to look!!

Hi James,

Since my husband has weekends off plus alternating 1 and 2 weekdays off I schedule my time to have either Saturday or Sunday off totally and a 1/2 day off on my husband's weekday off.

I believe family time is very important to a successful relationship. I discuss my work hour policy with my clients before signing them up with me and all have appreciated that I take care of myself and family, too, and not just be a slave to my profession. I do, however, work very long hours on the days that I'm committed to working.

If a situation comes up where a client really needs something on my day off I get another agent in my office to cover me or I will bend my time off rule, although I'm typically gone hiking and I'd be tough to track down:-)

Whether weekends or any other day of the week, I think it is important to have downtime.  Nobody should work seven days a week.  It's a choice that we make.
