Many Good Choices

Consumers are fortunate to have around 250 real estate agents in the region of the Black Hills MLS.  We agents often comment among ourselves that many home buyers and sellers just don't realize how different we are...and how many unique choices you have to choose from.

(By the way, we all are licensed to sell all the homes on all the MLS systems across the entire State.  And all of us MLS realtors have the same access to all the same data about the same properties for sale.  Kinda like any Chevy salesperson in South Dakota can sell you any of the same Chevy's any other salesperson can sell you.  The difference among realtors is not in which listings we represent.  Our differences are mostly personal, like full or part-time, highly educated or not, newly trained novice or long term seasoned agent, more energetic or not, etc etc etc.)

We will probably close roughly 1,500 home sales this year for the Black Hills MLS.  So that implies about six (yes, only 6!) deals per agent per year on the average.  But that just illustrates one of the many ways some of us are a better fit for some clients than other agents.  

We have some agents who mass-produce an assembly line of over 100 sales in a year. You'll often see a realtor's staff referred to as a "Team." It sounds better, I suppose.

And we have other agents who have a separate "day job" and work real estate only part time.  

Some of us are highly trained with broad, advanced skills, while others have a fairly recent high school diploma.  Some agents advertise they "specialize" in just about every aspect of real estate (and therefore, nothing), while others do focus their entire attention on just two or three client types (e.g., senior-friendly living, homes with horse property, and green-building).

How to Select an Agent

Some agents simply assert "Hire me, I'm the best!"  Then the sign on the other side of the bus may have another realtor claiming, "No, hire me, I'm the best!".  So many agents claim they are different because they care more, or work harder, or carry more certifications.  If we were all different for the same reason, then none of us would be different.   

We can't all be "best."  Anyway, "best agent" is not at all the same for you as your "best fit" agent.

So here's a lightbulb...Seek an agent because they really, truly are different. Not "best," but unique and "different" in a way that aligns best with the unique qualities you prefer in your agent. Perhaps that will be one who is demonstrably more sensitive to YOUR unique needs; they are a uniquely best fit for you; you like and trust them; and you have personally verified the value-proposition claims made by the agent's advertising and listing proposal.

But how do you do that?  Just Google up searches for phrases like:

But Where Do I Find Realtors to Contact?

The SD Real Estate Commission and the Black Hills MLS system each provide web sites to help you identify realtors.  But just to help you save some time here is a list of real estate agents in Rapid City (most of us, anyway).  Happy hunting.
